Thomson-East Coast Line Stage 2 opens on 28 August 2021

Six stations along the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) Stage 2 will be opening on Saturday, 28 August 2021

First announced by Minister for Transport S. Iswaran during a visit to the TEL Caldecott Station on 30 June 2021, the six new stations will provide enhanced connectivity, including an interchange station at Caldecott station.

Thomson-East Coast Line 2 – Opening on 28 Aug 2021

The opening of Caldecott station marks the addition of a new interchange station to the rail network, offering transfers between the Circle Line (CCL) and the TEL.

Stage 2, comprising six stations between Springleaf and Caldecott, was originally scheduled for opening in the Year 2020. This was delayed to Q3 2021 as announced by the Land Transport Authority.

🚇 #TEL2, which was slated to open by Q1 2021, is now expected to open in Q3 2021 instead. The recent disruption of TEL has prompted us to review the software of the system, which contributed to the delay, more thoroughly with the contractor. As rail systems are complex, we will try to iron out as many teething issues as possible before opening the next phase.

In a written answer to parliamentary questions in September 2020, then Transport Minister Mr Ong Ye Kang initially announced the delay of Stage 2 to Q1 2021, attributed to the circuit breaker and phased re-opening since April 2020 amid the COVID-19 Pandemic. The opening was further delayed to Q3 2021 in an update by the Land Transport Authority via a Facebook Post in December 2020.

Virtual Open House

The Land Transport Authority would be hosting a Virtual Open House for the TEL Stage 2 stations from 23 August 2021 to 27 August 2021. A physical open house was not possible owing to ongoing restrictions amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some of the activities include a virtual tour of the TEL2 station and features, behind-the-scenes stories from LTA engineers, and other public engagement activities.

Service 130 will turn right into Sin Ming Road from Upper Thomson Road (AMK Bound). It doesn’t stop anywhere near Upper Thomson MRT Station.

Unless you want to suggest that Service 130 to serve Upper Thomson MRT Station and then turning right into Sin Ming Avenue, Need to look at an introduction of a new bus service to replace Service 130 lost connectivity of Sin Ming Road.

Service 130 does not serve Upper Thomson MRT/Thomson Plaza. I guess the bus that you boarded was Service 132
