Buangkok Bus Interchange

Buangkok Bus Interchange is an Integrated Transport Hub (ITH) located at Buangkok. It is situated within the Sengkang Grand Mall integrated development, comprising a 3-level retail mall, a hawker centre, a childcare centre, a community club, and a condominium.

Buangkok ITH commenced operations on 1 December 2024.

Anchor Operator SBS Transit
Bus Routes SBS Transit – 2

Buangkok is the twelfth (12th) ITH to open in Singapore. Rail connections are offered via the adjacent Buangkok MRT Station along the North East Line, allowing for convenient transfers between bus services and the rail network.

Interchange Layout

Buangkok Bus Interchange contains 19 end-on parking lots arranged into 7 end-on berths.

The ITH is also the first to be designed only with end-on berths, as opposed to the more common sawtooth berth design. Toa Payoh and Boon Lay are the only other ITHs employing a mix of end-on and sawtooth berths, while HarbourFront and Saint Michael’s are the only other bus interchanges/terminals designed with exclusive use of end-on berths.

Vehicles enter/exit the interchange via a signalised T-junction with Sengkang Central. For emergencies, a backup vehicle access gate leads to the loading/unloading bay of Sengkang Grand Mall, which is accessed via Compassvale Bow.

Brief History

Plans for the interchange were first mooted as part of the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA)’s 2013 Draft Masterplan. Located in the heart of the Buangkok neighbourhood and adjacent to Buangkok MRT Station, the interchange would be integrated within a mixed-use development envisioned as an integrated community and transport hub to meet the needs of some 20,000 residents in Buangkok.

The proposed mixed-use development would integrate a bus interchange, a hawker centre (Buangkok Hawker Centre) and a 3-storey community club (Buangkok Community Club), alongside a childcare centre and retail spaces. A tender for the development of the land parcel was launched on 28 December 2017 and was awarded to Siena Residential Development Pte. Ltd. and Siena Trustee Pte. Ltd. (as Trustee-Manager of Siena Commercial Trust) at a tender price of S$777.78 million on 16 August 2018. A condominium development (Sengkang Grand Residences) would be built atop the retail/community/bus interchange components, comprising 680 residential units across 9 blocks.

Sengkang Grand Mall opened in March 2023, with the other amenities and residential apartments gradually opening thereafter.

    Super long speculation yay!:

This ITH should be opening soon, it is already featured on the newest MRT Maps in the trains, along with Woodleigh & Punggol Coast ITH.

Based on everyone’s comments I can see most ppl agree that these services should amend to Buangkok:

    83, 110, 114, 156

    Reasons:
83: No reason, though I’ll explain y this isnt very ideal in my opinion.

110: Useless staying in Compassvale, considering the land parcel which Compassvale BI sits on is zoned for other uses. The extension helps this service with higher demand and convenient access.

114: To Buangkok as 146 is to Woodleigh.

156: Not much use in Sengkang, waste of berth/parking space with little demand. Doesn’t serve important facilities (like ITE for 159). Also frees berth/park space for 374 to move back.

This takes up 4/7 of the end-on berth spaces now.

Now I noticed many ppl hv left out one poor GINORMOUS loop service from the speculation list: 965!! Why bother with 83 (which is only approx. 14km long) when 965 can be shortened instead? (It’s currently 42.4km long for reference).

If 83 were to amend to Buangkok I suggest extending it to Punggol Coast and serving Punggol Nth Ave. Certainly improves connectivity. As for fleet, keep it DD. Pls. It has huge demand for Punggol-Sengkang already.

If anything I think Bus Service 146 (surprise surprise) can extend via Hougang Ave 3 to cover Kovan City & Hougang Residences. That’s a proper trunk service there.

There might be new services introduced in the future to serve Buangkok ITH, so I’ll leave it up to anyone with ideas. Pls don’t think of amending high demand services away from their catchment areas though (which is a big problem for 83 & Sengkang/Punggol).

    Thanks for reading!

    You don’t need to speculate.

Services confirmed originating from Buangkok in the future:

    83, 101, 110, 114

Anchor operator: SBST Sengkang-Hougang Bus package.

374 will take over 83 berth in Sengkang.
Compassvale Interchange set to be demolished per URA updated plans.

83 will hence become full SD fleet, freeing up DD resource that GAS needs rather than what others predict for 68.

No plans for any new introduced routes, 114 extension to SG zoo seems kinda sus, and the new roads are just starting construction from one of the MP Facebook post. But 101 amendment to buangkok err makes 114 extension likely. But at this rate the Interchange will open first before the roads at sengkang west completes.

What are your credentials for saying the 4 services that you mentioned are confirmed and that we “don’t need to speculate”? Are you working in LTA or are you one of the grassroots member who have been engaging in discussions with LTA regarding these new bus services? Frankly, there have been many commenters on this post(such as Sharil who have previously commented that 114 will be extended to SG zoo) here who have stated they have some certainty regarding information about the rerouted/new bus services at Buangkok? Will appreciate if you can address these comments, and ofc without exposing your personal identity/ sensitive/ secret information?

They can actually consider to extend 167 to Sengkang while skipping the Cantonment Bukit Merah sector. Sengkang hasn’t got a trunk service to the CBD yet, apart from 654 which is an express service.

Hopefully they do not move 156 to Buangkok… I live near the Kopitiam Square area of Sengkang East Rd and I take 156 regularly to connect to Clementi @.@

329, currently at Hougang Central Bus Interchange, can potentially amend to originate at Buangkok Bus Interchange and loop at Hougang.

This is on top of the 3 bus routes that I identified that can amend to Buangkok Bus Interchange, namely: 114, 110, 156.

Which means 4 bus routes, for a bus interchange that can accommodate 6 bus routes (66% occupancy).

Another bus route that can consider moving over to Buangkok Bus Interchange would be 87, which is currently at Sengkang Bus Interchange, and should be quite easy to relocate.

This would make the occupancy rate to be 83%. The remainder 1 bus route vacancy, which is 16%, can let it be spare capacity, to accommodate any bus route in the future.

At the same time, if the above is the case, Sengkang and Buangkok Bus Interchanges both will have spare capacity for 1 more bus route each. Then, don’t really need to have Compassvale Bus Interchange already, and thus Compassvale Bus Interchange can be closed permanently.

With that, I’m done with my speculation regarding Buangkok Bus Interchange. Thank you for taking time to read it.

What I feel cld happen for Buangkok int
114: do I really need to state why
156: 156 doesn’t get much demand from the Buangkok green – Sengkang ITH sector. Might get abit more demand if it serves Buangkok int instead.
That’s all that could currently happen as I think Buangkok int won’t have much services.

And either 110 or 374 can be amended to Sengkang int to take the berth space from 156.

      114 is the obvious one.

Actually, I would recommend that they should take advantage of Buangkok Bus Interchange to reduce the number of bus routes at Sengkang and Compassvale Bus Interchanges, so that the operations at Sengkang can consolidate at Sengkang Bus Interchange.

The following are my recommendations on the bus routes that consider relocating to Buangkok Bus Interchange:
      – 156, currently at Sengkang Bus Interchange (doesn’t really connect to any industrial area, unlike 159).
      – 110, currently at Compassvale Bus Interchange, just a simple route extension to Buangkok Bus Interchange.

If the above is the case, 374 can relocate from Compassvale Bus Interchange to Sengkang Bus Interchange after that (taking over 159 place), and Compassvale Bus Interchange can just close permanently thereafter.

Regarding the Compassvale Bus Interchange itself, LTA ratio of end-on lots to bus routes is 3 lots to 1 route, which from the layout map of the Sengkang Grand Mall also quite clear.

19 lots, means the bus interchange is meant to accommodate up to 6 bus routes and 1 service vehicle.

3 existing bus routes, quite likely will move to Buangkok Bus Interchange.

The other 3 vacancies, either existing bus routes or future bus routes, or both.

Bruh the article literally states 7 end on berth, can also see yourself now when you walk towards the back.

What makes you think there’s only 6?

5 berths have 3 parking spaces
2 berths have 2 parking spaces

        Total 19.

114 will take 1 of the berth with 2 parking spaces (IF there’s no planned extension)

        110 will take the 3.

101 will take the 2 (3 if 114 extension does not come to fruition).

83 will take the 2 (Similar to 68 arrangement)
