Buangkok is the twelfth (12th) ITH to open in Singapore. Rail connections are offered via the adjacent Buangkok MRT Station along the North East Line, allowing for convenient transfers between bus services and the rail network.

Interchange Layout

Buangkok Bus Interchange contains 19 end-on parking lots arranged into 7 end-on berths.

The ITH is also the first to be designed only with end-on berths, as opposed to the more common sawtooth berth design. Toa Payoh and Boon Lay are the only other ITHs employing a mix of end-on and sawtooth berths, while HarbourFront and Saint Michael’s are the only other bus interchanges/terminals designed with exclusive use of end-on berths.

Vehicles enter/exit the interchange via a signalised T-junction with Sengkang Central. For emergencies, a backup vehicle access gate leads to the loading/unloading bay of Sengkang Grand Mall, which is accessed via Compassvale Bow.

Brief History

Plans for the interchange were first mooted as part of the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA)’s 2013 Draft Masterplan. Located in the heart of the Buangkok neighbourhood and adjacent to Buangkok MRT Station, the interchange would be integrated within a mixed-use development envisioned as an integrated community and transport hub to meet the needs of some 20,000 residents in Buangkok.

The proposed mixed-use development would integrate a bus interchange, a hawker centre (Buangkok Hawker Centre) and a 3-storey community club (Buangkok Community Club), alongside a childcare centre and retail spaces. A tender for the development of the land parcel was launched on 28 December 2017 and was awarded to Siena Residential Development Pte. Ltd. and Siena Trustee Pte. Ltd. (as Trustee-Manager of Siena Commercial Trust) at a tender price of S$777.78 million on 16 August 2018. A condominium development (Sengkang Grand Residences) would be built atop the retail/community/bus interchange components, comprising 680 residential units across 9 blocks.

Sengkang Grand Mall opened in March 2023, with the other amenities and residential apartments gradually opening thereafter.

Based on my latest view, from the bicycle parking lot there (if ur tall enough), theres a slight peep into the interchange and its confirmed that it will run just like Sengkang, Hougang, Serangoon etc. kinds of interchange. Hope this helps reduce confusion whether if its an on-end berth. 🙂

My new speculation, edited from previous comment:

This ITH should be opening soon, it is already featured on the newest MRT Maps in the trains, along with Woodleigh & Punggol Coast ITH.

Based on everyone’s comments I can see most ppl agree that these services should amend to Buangkok:

    83, 110, 114, 156

    Reasons:
83: No reason, though I’ll explain y this isnt very ideal in my opinion.
    – Edit: Currently a loop service in Sengkang ITH. Now with LTA allowing “Super short bidirectional trunks” (cue 870, 992), 83 is a possibility to Buangkok ITH.

110: Useless staying in Compassvale, considering the land parcel which Compassvale BI sits on is zoned for other uses. The extension helps this service with higher demand and convenient access.

114: To Buangkok as 146 is to Woodleigh.

156: Not much use in Sengkang, waste of berth/parking space with little demand. Doesn’t serve important facilities (like ITE for 159). Also frees berth/park space for 374 to move back.

This takes up 4/7 of the end-on berth spaces now.

Now I noticed many ppl hv left out one poor GINORMOUS loop service from the speculation list: 965!! Why even bother with 83 (which is only approx. 14km long) anyway, when 965 can be shortened instead? (It’s currently 42.4km long for reference).

If 83 were to amend to Buangkok I suggest extending it to Punggol Coast and serving Punggol Nth Ave. Certainly improves connectivity. As for fleet, keep it DD. Pls. It has huge demand for Punggol-Sengkang already.

If anything I think Bus Service 146 (surprise surprise) can extend via Hougang Ave 3 to cover Kovan City & Hougang Residences. That’s a proper trunk service there.

There might be new services introduced in the future to serve Buangkok ITH, so I’ll leave it up to anyone with ideas. Pls don’t think of amending high demand services away from their catchment areas though.
    – Edit: There is a possibility of new feeders, however I think 114 plays enough of a feeder role for Buangkok (unless it’s really extended to THE ZOO wtf, in that case 101 can extend to Buangkok)

    Thanks for reading!

Here’s my idea of amendments to Buangkok Bus Interchange.

Service 83 could amend here and become a bidirectional trunk. Also 83 could extend to Punggol Coast, from Buangkok ITH passing via Sengkang Central, Compassvale LRT, Punggol Field/Central.

Service 101 could extend to Buangkok Bus Interchange, from Serangoon Interchange and Integrating with Service 114 passing via Upper Serangoon Road, Hougang MRT, Buangkok Crescent/Drive.

Service 156 could amend to Buangkok Bus Interchange, from Clementi Bus Interchange passing via Ulu Pandan, Bukit Timah, PIE, Thomson Road, Bishan, YCK Road & Buangkok Green. Lost sectors replaced by Service 159 & New Service 997 which will be running from Bukit Batok to Sengkang operated under Tower Transit Bulim Package passing via places such as Bukit Batok East Ave 2/6, Jalan Jurong Kechil, PIE, Thomson Road, Bishan Street 21/Road, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8/5, Buangkok Green & Sengkang East Road/Way. Service 997 will be a faster connection for ITE College Central students to get to places like Thomson Road, Beauty World & Bukit Batok.
Service 997 will also replace the lost sectors of service 156 from Buangkok Green to Sengkang ITH.

Service 110 can amend to Sengkang Bus Interchange and loop at Changi Airport plying it’s normal route via Anchorvale, Farmway LRT, TPE/PIE & Airport Boulevard.

Service 374 will also amend to Sengkang Bus Interchange and also will become a dual loop service running in East and west loops. Service 371’s route will be integrated with New service 374. 371 will be withdrawn.
East Loop 374 passes from Sengkang and loops at Rivervale Crescent passing via Compassvale LRT, Rivervale Drive/Crescent. 374 in it’s west loop will not stop at Sengkang Interchange but at Sengkang MRT Station along Sengkang East Way. 374 West loop takes 374 same route since 2017 looping at Fernvale Road passing via Anchorvale, Sengkang West Way, Fernvale Road.

Service 965 will extend to Buangkok Bus Interchange, from Woodlands Bus Interchange and becoming a Bidirectional service under Tower Transit passes via Gambas Avenue, Yishun, Lentor, SLE/TPE, Compassvale LRT/Road/Link/Bow.

      Thanks for reading.

17 parking lots don’t expect more service.
    110 & 114 each 3 lots,Maybe 2-3 trunks with 2 lots each
5 lots for 1-2 new feeder service.

LTA guideline is 3 end-on lots to 1 service. Quite obvious 19 end-on lots is for 6 services and 1 service vehicle.

    110 & 114 highly possible.
115 might be extended here and loop at Hougang St 21.
1-2 new feeders and probably another service here.
