The inter-town service improves on existing bus connections between Serangoon, Serangoon North and Hougang, complimenting existing Services 72 and 315 and providing more travel options for local residents.

I like this service because it is one of the only bus services from serangoon mrt to serangoon cc. So if you want to go to serangoon cc, you can go to serangoon mrt and take exit c and take 116.
Should amend this service 116 from Serangoon ITH to Upper Serangoon View(Loop) passing via Serangoon North & Hougang
This service should integrate with service 324
324 cannot merge already liao. Otherwise, 324 will not have DDs if demand is low. Mind you, 324 is there to back 102 up, especially now 102 demand is very high cause of Sengkang.
Feeders may be bad sometimes but feeders are there to back-up the trunks like 324 (complement 102), 920/922 (help 972/972M if screwed) etc. Also, merging with 324 may worsen 116 as well with long bunching. Extending 116 to Bidadari might be possible but see how LTA wants to plan 🙂
Let me add some more points, after all I am a local along 324 and 102 myself.
Merging 116 and 324 would also mean that people would have to stand at the very small and temporary bus stop along Hougang Ctrl, which already sees high demand from 72 and 101. Adding another bus service would basically make it Woodlands Train Stn, (everyone knows the reference) considering 324 do frequently have extremely long queues, sometimes even reaching the MRT station building ITSELF. That means commuters who would not take that now unreliable service have no other options but to take other unreliable services. 62 runs at 20 mins and is constantly packed, and 136 is too infrequent and not serve Hougang at all.
In addition, 324 (unfortunately despite the heavy and healthy demand) still runs predominantly single-deckers, which often are packed to the brim because there is MORE demand at the next stop, The Midtown. And 116 don’t have low demand either. I have often seen long queues and crowded buses from Hougang myself.
Also 102 sees surprisingly high demand along Buangkok Dr mind you.
Should extend this route to Woodleigh ITH
