Service 253 is a short industrial route linking the industrial areas around Benoi with connections to Joo Koon MRT and Bus Interchange. It plies Benoi Sector, Pioneer Road and Benoi Road. Formerly operating between Boon Lay Interchange and Benoi Road (Loop) prior to its withdrawal in 2001, the route number has been re-used with its introduction on 12 December 2015.
As part of the Joo Koon Bus Interchange opening and accompanying Jurong Industrial Estate route reorganization, Service 253 was introduced to cover lost sectors of Services 251, 254 and 255 as these three services were shortened from Boon Lay to Joo Koon Interchange.
On-Demand Public Bus (ODPB) Trial
To facilitate the ODPB Trial from 17 December 2018 to 14 June 2019, Service 253 operated at a frequency of 30 minutes during off peak hours on Weekdays (Except Public Holidays). Commuters may book an On-Demand Public Bus (On-Demand Public Bus – Joo Koon Area) through the BusGo app. Following the end of the ODPB Trial, the bus frequency was reverted back to pre-trial status.
