Chinatown Direct CT8 was introduced in Jan 2005 along with CT18 and CT28, connecting residential estates in Ang Mo Kio with the City areas of Chinatown and Outram Park. Incorporating an express sector along the CTE, the route offers fast and direct connection for commuters who would otherwise have to rely on feeder buses and transfers between MRT lines to reach Chinatown.
Prior to its withdrawal, CT8 was the most successful of Chinatown Direct routes, with high commuter traffic throughout the day. The frequency was stepped up since its introduction in 2005.
Originally using the green-background destination signs, they have been phased out in favour of electronic route displays installed on wheelchair-accessible buses. Despite starting and ending at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9, buses running on CT8 used Yio Chu Kang Bus Interchange as a layover point until March 2018, where it was changed to Ang Mo Kio Bus Depot.
During the Chinese New Year festive period, operating hours will be adjusted.
The service was suspended from 15 April 2020 due to the COVID-19 situation in Singapore. It continued to remain suspended until its discontinuation on 30 June 2022. The last day of operations was on 14 April 2020.

Back to Chinatown Direct
Back to Bus Services
Sad to see it go. I thought it is a good alternative for AMK residents to go Chinatown before TEL3 opens.
This service will be most likely withdrawn with the introduction of TEL 3.
But it will be withdrawn from 30 June 2022.
Why doesn’t it use DD during CNY since there’s no route limitation (according to your information)?
There is insufficent demand on this service.
