Ang Mo Kio North South Line station has four elevated platforms in a double island platform arrangement, serving three tracks through the station. Among the earliest-built above-ground stations, station architecture is similar to many older stations along the Western sector of the East West Line, with a simple flat roof over the platform level supported by rows of columns.

While regular NSL train services use the outermost platforms, a middle track served by Platforms C and D are used to either disembark passengers from terminating trains before being withdrawn to Bishan MRT Depot via the middle track (during the post-peak hours and for late night train trips), or board passengers after trains are launched from Bishan MRT Depot.
