Outram Park MRT Station (EW16/NE3) is an underground interchange station at the boundaries of the Bukit Merah and Outram planning areas. Located near the junction of Outram Road, Eu Tong Sen Street and New Bridge Road, the station connects the East West Line (EWL) and the North East Line (NEL).

The station brings rail connections to the Outram Medical Campus, Pearl’s Hill and other developments around Cantonment Road, including the Police Cantonment Complex. The Outram Medical Campus houses the Singapore General Hospital, Outram Polyclinic, Singapore National Eye Centre, National Dental Centre, National Heart Centre, the Health Promotion Board, the Health Sciences Authority, the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and other specialist medical centres. Located near Exit F is the former New Bridge Road Bus Terminal, where bus connections were offered before being relocated to the nearby Kampong Bahru Bus Terminal in March 2018.
The station and its surrounding area gets its name after Sir James Outram, a British general. By 2021, Outram Park will be an interchange station with the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL), with the station code. It will then join Dhoby Ghaut and Marina Bay stations as three-line interchange stations within the MRT network.

Outram Park station has four platforms, with the East West Line (EWL) and North East Line (NEL) occupying two platforms each, both in island platform configurations, separated by depth with the newer NEL running underneath the older EWL. Full-height Platform screen doors isolate the air-conditioned station from the tunnel environment, enhancing commuter safety and station comfort. Passenger Information Systems, which are plasma display screens located at each platform, display expected train arrival times and key messages. Tactile flooring helps to guide the visually-handicapped from the platform to the station exits and connecting platforms.
All platforms are served by a set of escalators, stairs and lifts which connect to their respective station concourses one floor above. Both EWL and NEL stations are linked by a transfer linkway at Basement 3, which connect to the EWL platforms at one end and the NEL concourse at the other end.
Both the East West Line and North East Line concourses feature faregates for automatic fare collection and provides access between paid and unpaid areas of the station. At least one bidirectional wide-swinging gate is installed at each point of entry/exit for the benefit of passengers-in-wheelchairs and those carrying bulky items or travelling with prams.
General Ticketing Machines allow commuters to purchase tickets for single or multiple journeys, and along with Transitlink Add Value Machines (EWL) and Top-up Machines (NEL), offer contactless card transactions. The station offices function as Passenger Service Centres, and are staffed during operating hours, where commuters may make travel inquiries or perform card transactions using cash payment. Additionally, a Transitlink Ticket Office at the EWL concourse serves commuters from 1200hrs – 1930hrs daily.
Toilets are located in the unpaid areas of both EWL and NEL stations, situated near the Passenger Service Centres. Retail shops are present in the EWL parts of the station.
NEL Art in Transit: “The Commuters” by Teo Eng Seng
One of the most thought provoking artworks on the North East Line, these rich and varied wall reliefs of people in motion reflect the thoughts and inner-most feelings of commuters. These images seem to emerge from the wall and disappear into it, inviting commuters to pause and contemplate their meaning. The work was originally fashioned in clay by the artist before being transferred onto concrete wall panels.
Civil Defence shelter
Outram Park NEL station is one of thirteen stations along the North East Line designated as Civil Defence (CD) shelters, which will be activated in times of national emergency. Apart from reinforced construction, the stations are designed and equipped with facilities to ensure the shelter environment is tolerable for all shelterees during shelter occupation. These facilities include protective blast doors, decontamination facilities, ventilation systems, power and water supply systems and a dry toilet system.

Outram Park station has two underground Thomson-East Coast Line platforms in an island platform arrangement, expected to open for passenger service in Year 2021.
Outram Park MRT station has eight exits at ground level (A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H), most of which provide barrier-free accessibility for the disabled. Exits A, B, C and D branch out from the same East West Line surface building.

Passenger Usage Patterns
As an interchange station in the City, the station is well-utilized by many commuters transferring between rail lines and heading in and out of the area. With the Outram Medical Campus generating strong demand and nearby places of interest, Outram Park station encounters high commuter traffic throughout the day.
Outram Park NEL station and tunnels were built as part of NEL Contract 710.
Contract T222 for the Construction of Outram Park Station for Thomson Line was awarded to Daelim Industrial Co. Ltd at a contract sum of S300.8 million in May 2014. The Korean company had previously been involved in Korean civil engineering projects and was part of the joint venture involved in the design and construction of Marina Coastal Expressway.
A 43-year-old man was shot dead at Outram Park NEL station by a policeman on 6 March 2008, at around 3:35 pm. The man had fatally stabbed a 52-year-old odd-job worker to death in a hawker centre at Jalan Kukoh at about 2.45 pm earlier that day. As two police officers approached the suspect, he lunged at them with a knife, and was shot within three metres in the chest. The man died on the spot, and paramedics pronounced him dead at about 3.50 pm.
Train services were not affected; however several doors were affected by the resulting police cordon and passengers were diverted to other doors. A coroner’s inquiry recorded a verdict of justifiable homicide.
