It is built underneath Gardens By The Bay (Bay East), bringing rail connectivity to the Bay East Garden area and nearby Tanjong Rhu estate, as well as supporting future developments in the region.

The working name for the station is named after the Founders’ Memorial, a 5-ha being built in the Bay East Gardens to showcase the contributions of modern Singapore’s founders.

The station is targeted for completion and opening in Year 2025, in tandem with the Founders’ Memorial.

Founders’ Memorial station has two platforms in an island platform arrangement. Full-height Platform screen doors isolate the air-conditioned station from the tunnel environment, enhancing commuter safety and station comfort. A set of escalators, stairs and lifts connect to the concourse above.

Passenger Information Systems, which are plasma display screens located at each platform, display expected train arrival times and key messages. Tactile flooring helps to guide the visually-handicapped from the platform to the station exits.

Concourse

The concourse features faregates for automatic fare collection and provides access between paid and unpaid areas of the station, with at least one bidirectional wide-swinging gate for the benefit of passengers-in-wheelchairs and those carrying bulky items or travelling with prams.

General Ticketing Machines allow commuters to purchase tickets for single or multiple journeys, and along with Top-up Machines, offer contactless card transactions. The station office functions as a Passenger Service Centre, and is staffed during operating hours, where commuters may make travel inquiries or perform card transactions using cash payment.

Construction Trivia

Contract T302 for the Construction of Facility Building and Tunnels for Thomson-East Coast Line was awarded to China Railway First Group Co., Ltd. Singapore Branch at a contract sum of S$242.4 million in June 2016. This includes a shell station near Gardens by the Bay (Bay East).

The station was first named Gardens Bay East and appeared on the rail system map with the station code TE22A in May 2018, along with the confirmed stations for the Jurong Region Line. Gardens Bay East was subsequently removed from the rail system map in a revision.

In January 2019, it was announced that the shell station at Gardens by the Bay (Bay East) would be named Founders’ Memorial, scheduled for opening in 2025. The contract for the construction of Founders’ Memorial station is likely a negotiated contract with China Railway First Group Co., Ltd. Singapore Branch, which was responsible for the construction of the shell station under Contract T302. China Railway First Group was awarded a $242.4 million contract to build Founders’ Memorial Station.

The station will be built by converting the TEL Facility Building at Gardens Bay East, which was built under Contract T302, to a fully-furnished MRT Station.
