Construction of the Cross Island Line necessitated the clearing of the western portion of Hougang Central Bus Interchange, affecting around 19 bus lots. As a result, the Land Transport Authority made plans to relocate these bus parking lots to a nearby location.

On 31 January 2019, the civil engineering tender was published, under LTA Contract CR1088: Temporary Bus Parking and Driver Facility (TPDF), which was subsequently awarded to CCECC Singapore Pte Ltd. Construction began in late 2019 and was completed sometime in late 2021. The facility was also named Hougang Bus Park, as reflected by permanent signages mounted on the building facade.

Hougang Bus Park commenced parking buses from Hougang Central Int on 25 April 2022.

Public Access

Hougang Bus Park is not open to the general public and no scheduled bus services originate/terminate at the bus park. Should bus services from Hougang Ctrl Int be dispatched from Hougang Bus Park, buses will deadhead to Hougang Ctrl Int to pick up passengers.

The bus park was opened to the public on 9 & 10 September 2023 for the RSAF55 Open House held at Paya Lebar Air Base. The bus park was used as a boarding/alighting point for shuttle bus services.

Every service that cannot find parking spots at HGINT will terminate there and some buses are allocated to park there not in use due to depot overcrowdness.

Now HGINT each service is entitled to 1-2 lots marked on the road. Facing the interchange from office, right side 1st 2 lots are for spare buses, meaning any bus can park there. Following which is 2 lots for 329, 1 lot for 151, 1 for 74, 1 for 147, 1 for 132, 1 for 51. Seemed to be dual depot control services are all parked on the right.

On the left from the front is 1 lot for 325, 1 lot for 324, 1 lot for 161, 1 lot for 107, 1 lot for 112, 1 lot for 113, 3 lots for 27 vice versa.

Now 53M buses terminate at Kovan stop instead of heading back to HGINT for their meal breaks as observed.

The bus park is under-used, might as well make it a temporary bus interchange and put some services to terminate there. Currently Hougang bus interchange is overcrowded due to no parking during peak hours and meal breaks. Can’t see how they are going to resolve the issue??
