Thomson-East Coast Line Stage 3 to open in second half of 2022

11 Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) stations are expected to open in the second half of 2022, as announced by Transport Minister S Iswaran (9 Mar 2022) during the Committee of Supply debate.

The line will open on 13 November 2022.

On 17 August 2022, the Land Transport Authority handed over the stations to SMRT, marking the completion of all civil and structural works, as well as systems integration and testing activities. Operational testing will be carried out over the next few months in preparation of passenger service by the end of the year.

Originally announced to be open in the Year 2021, the opening of TEL Stage 3 was delayed due to material supplies and manpower disruption as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The third stage of the Thomson-East Coast Line comprises 13 stations, including 4 interchange stations. However, Marina South and Mount Pleasant stations will open at a later date in tandem with developments in the area.

TEL2 was handed over to SMRT about 4 months before its actual opening date on 28 Aug 21 so I predict the opening date for TEL3 will be around mid December with a physical open house taking place in November. Though I’m not sure if the COVID measures that were in place had an impact on the timeline of the operational testing for TEL2 last year. Now that the measures have been relaxed, hope SMRT can complete its operational testing sooner so that TEL3 can be opened before mid December. Hopefully the earliest date is around late November.

I think 162 may change to going to suntec permanently instead of going to shenton way or get withdrawn. 167 may change from bukit merah to sembawang 167e express route or get withdrawn. 75 may cut short to loop at beauty world instead to marina centre.

Then 167 can take over the sector of 75 from outram park mrt to cantonment road to avoid duplicating 196. 162 duplicates both TEL from Bright Hill to Shenton Way, & 167 from Upper Thomson to Shenton Way.

Meaning 167 will have to use Tiong Bahru Road like 851?
