Service 683 offers residents of Punggol East improved connectivity to the Orchard area, providing a direct travel alternative to commuters who typically rely on the rail network and feeder buses. As a City Direct service, it only operates on weekdays.
If the eves of Christmas, New Year’s Day, and Chinese New Year fall on a weekday, the Evening Peak departures will be brought forward to the afternoon. Revised departure times will be provided by the operator closer to the affected date.
At launch, the service was planned to serve an additional 2 new bus stops along Punggol East in the future, of which one of them started on 28 Dec 2025.
Travel Smart Journeys
This bus service is part of the latest Travel Smart Journeys – North-East Line Scheme.
Registered commuters on the SimplyGo app can earn cashback in the form of e-transport vouchers by boarding & alighting at designated stops during Morning Peak hours.
Note: Bus Stops 65791 (Waterway Pr Sch), 65669 (Blk 656A) & 65799 (Blk 654D) along Punggol East are also included as a boarding point.
Bus Connectivity Enhancement Programme
This service was introduced under the Bus Connectivity Enhancement Programme (BCEP), a scheme launched in 2024 that facilitated the introduction of more bus services, including peak-hour City Direct services.
The key commuter benefit of this service mentioned by the Land Transport Authority is that it connects Punggol residents to and from Orchard and Novena during peak periods via KPE.

After seeing Service 683’s popularity, I feel like it could be converted into a full day service in between Punggol Coast and Kent Ridge.

This route would create a quick full-day link in between Punggol and downtown, as well as forming a direct route in between NUS and the downtown, which would be very beneficial to both Punggol residents as well as those students in NUS, making this service similar to 190 in CCK and 972 in BPJ.

Agree mostly. But the Kent Ridge part can be deleted. Your routing extend current 683’s route to Punggol Coast, one good thing, serving more areas in Orchard etc…
Renumbering like wise can also be bus service 1, 108 is a good number, but just hope to see by this year or next year bus svc 1 could be introduced between Punggol Coast to Whampoa passing through current 683 route.
This bus service should never discontinue. It is a very good and useful bus service. I would rate it full marks. The best bus service in Punggol so far. Pls stay long 683, my favourite bus service. Thank you LTA for making Punggol a better home for all.
