City Direct Service 647 offers residents of Bukit Gombak, Bukit Batok West and Toh Guan with improved connectivity to the Central Business District and the Marina Centre area. The route plies express along the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE), providing a direct alternative to commuters who typically rely on the rail network and feeder buses.
As a City Direct service, it operates only on weekdays (except Public Holidays), with unidirectional City-bound trips in the mornings, and return trips towards the heartlands in the evenings.
The route was launched on 15 June 2026, as a renumbering of Express Bus Service 868E, which was discontinued on the same day. While Express 868E previously only operated two trips in the morning, the renumbering saw the new introduction of evening return trips towards Bukit Batok West Ave 5, along with a third morning trip.
From Toh Guan to the CBD, City Direct 657 offers an alternative to this service. While Express 502 also serves this connection, it plies a longer route via Orchard Road.
If the eve of Christmas, New Year’s Day, and Chinese New Year fall on a weekday, evening peak departures will be brought forward to the afternoon. Revised departure times will be provided by the operator closer to the affected date.
