Buangkok is the twelfth (12th) ITH to open in Singapore. Rail connections are offered via the adjacent Buangkok MRT Station along the North East Line, allowing for convenient transfers between bus services and the rail network.

Interchange Layout

Buangkok Bus Interchange contains 19 end-on parking lots arranged into 7 end-on berths.

The ITH is also the first to be designed only with end-on berths, as opposed to the more common sawtooth berth design. Toa Payoh and Boon Lay are the only other ITHs employing a mix of end-on and sawtooth berths, while HarbourFront and Saint Michael’s are the only other bus interchanges/terminals designed with exclusive use of end-on berths.

Vehicles enter/exit the interchange via a signalised T-junction with Sengkang Central. For emergencies, a backup vehicle access gate leads to the loading/unloading bay of Sengkang Grand Mall, which is accessed via Compassvale Bow.

Brief History

Plans for the interchange were first mooted as part of the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA)’s 2013 Draft Masterplan. Located in the heart of the Buangkok neighbourhood and adjacent to Buangkok MRT Station, the interchange would be integrated within a mixed-use development envisioned as an integrated community and transport hub to meet the needs of some 20,000 residents in Buangkok.

The proposed mixed-use development would integrate a bus interchange, a hawker centre (Buangkok Hawker Centre) and a 3-storey community club (Buangkok Community Club), alongside a childcare centre and retail spaces. A tender for the development of the land parcel was launched on 28 December 2017 and was awarded to Siena Residential Development Pte. Ltd. and Siena Trustee Pte. Ltd. (as Trustee-Manager of Siena Commercial Trust) at a tender price of S$777.78 million on 16 August 2018. A condominium development (Sengkang Grand Residences) would be built atop the retail/community/bus interchange components, comprising 680 residential units across 9 blocks.

Sengkang Grand Mall opened in March 2023, with the other amenities and residential apartments gradually opening thereafter.

Another idiot that just propose whatever they like. Just because there is a new Interchange doesn’t mean they should fill it up to capacity.

27 – So basically you are saying, FU to those living along hougang Ave 6/8 with only 27 serving the pair of bus stops of blk 438/bef 544 & 546? You know what walk up there instead if you want to take the MRT.

83 – Well since we got many connections to baungkok from sengkang/punggol already add 1 more to fetch air!

102 – Another big FU to the huge crowd commuters relying 102 from baungkok to hougang sector.

110 – Well the return trip after compassvale is fetch air, so may as well fetch more air to baungkok also!

Some people just really like to spit route suggestion out without actually knowing the heavy demand of them during peak hours.

Pretty clear cut you don’t live around that area.

27 – So residents along Ave 6 won’t have any bus services serving them? (Bus stop bet blk 544/546)? Demand is super strong during peak hours, with buses reaching that stop full to door as pax alighting at Baungkok MRT. Not needed for any amendments.

110 – ??? It’s serving compassvale bus interchange no problems. Why need for this useless amendment? 110 demands is mainly for airport sector. Go to airport from baungkok? Take 27 all the way or change at bef punggol road. Another useless suggestion.

114 – Most definitely remains as it is, but calling at the ITH for sure. More or less confirmed.

115 – What for again? 115 is doing the loops around ave 3 because it’s gonna duplicate NEL again, and there’s already services like 51/62/87/151 etc providing connectivity.

115 makes sense,we can use a different type of route, by using hougang Avenue 8, upper sgoon Rd and hg Ave 5,7 and tampines Road we revert back to old route at hougang ave3 and using old route until the end of hougang Ave 1, turn right and amend into seraggoon gardens

Most likely, the buses from the “Compassvale Interchange” might be transferred to this interchange like 110, 374. And also some buses like 102 or 89 to de-congest the Hougang interchange…

114 might be amended to loop at Jalan Kayu when the Buangkok drive extension opens and the current route of 114 would become 114M
