Service 101 is a residential trunk route linking large parts of Hougang Neighbourhoods 4, 5 and 9 to Hougang Central, Kovan and Serangoon, offering connectivity to these transport nodes and nearby community amenities. Demand is most significant during the peak hours where many commuters commute to and from home and the MRT network.
Cancelled Extension to Buangkok MRT Station
In a Facebook post on 9 August 2020, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ang Mo Kio GRC (Jalan Kayu) Dr Intan Azura Mokhtar revealed that the Land Transport Authority had initially wanted to amend Service 101 to ply Buangkok Crescent to Buangkok MRT Station. However, she mentioned that “many residents living along Buangkok Link will be omitted entirely and not have any bus service serving them”, although Bus Service 329 currently serves one side of Buangkok Link. In lieu of her concern, LTA reviewed the route amendment plan and it was changed to that effective 25 August 2019, where Service 101 would loop at Buangkok Crescent and not serve Buangkok MRT Station. LTA would then continue to study commuter feedback for Service 101 over the next six months (from 25 August 2019) to better understand how the bus service can be improved. In addition, she had also emphasised the need for a direct bus service that would connect Buangkok estate (Crescent and Link) residents to and from Buangkok MRT.
In a follow-up Facebook post on 4 July 2020, the MP disclosed that LTA had agreed to extend service 101 to ply between Buangkok Crescent estate and Buangkok MRT station. The details of the new route of service 101 and its implementation date would be shared with residents as soon as they are available.
Initially announced in September 2020, the planned route extension of Bus Service 101 was due to take place on 11 October 2020.
However, the route extension was cancelled by the Land Transport Authority on 2 October 2020, following feedback from commuters and Grassroots Adviser Ms Ng Ling Ling. In particular, concerned was raised regarding the skipping of two bus stops along Buangkok Link as part of the amendment.
In lieu of Service 101’s planned route extension, Service 114 would be introduced from Buangkok MRT Station to loop at Buangkok Crescent instead from 25 October 2020.

Could have extend it to terminate at compassvale bus interchange.
In one of former MP Dr Intan’s messages before she stepped down, she mentioned that 101 would eventually be extended to Buangkok MRT in the near future from Buangkok Crescent. Maybe the route will skip Buangkok Link? Or will there be a supplementary route?
Whatever it is, 101 should be extended towards the end of the year (September/October preferably).
They can just extend 101 to ply Buangkok Crescent 2 ways, then Buangkok Link, Buangkok MRT and terminate at Compassvale Interchange for the time being, since it is pretty underutilized. I stay at that area and it is a complete pain to get to the nearest MRT. Even when traffic is clear, it takes minimally 16 minutes for both 101/329 to get to HG. Moreover, if you take 329, you still need to walk another 5 mins to the MRT from the bus stop. The fastest way right now is to take 101 and switch to 43/43M along Buangkok Green, of course, subject to the arrival time of the 43 brothers (If lucky, by changing buses, you can reach Buangkok in like 9-10mins), which explains the numerous complaints to have a direct service to Buangkok.
LTA had intended for 101 to ply Buangkok MRT since the Buangkok Link extension opened but the MP lobbied against it previously for the lack of direct buses to the flats at Buangkok Link.
For this, LTA can simply route 329 to follow the current 101 looping route instead by turning into BK crescent after the BK link flats. Solves the problem with residents at BK Link still getting a service to HG Mrt, without compromising the access to HG One. No idea why they are taking so long to launch this.
It is Likely that 101 will terminate at Buangkok Bus Interchange when it opens by 2022.
Get ready for someone to lobby about his 148 and 152.
to satisfy the majority resident at the new buangkok crescent estate. there is no more bus plying thru buangkok link. it is really good to amend bus 329 to ply thru buangkok link
101 will be getting an extension to Buangkok MRT by next month or the following month. It will be rerouted via Buangkok Crescent skipping its existing bus stops along Buangkok Link.v
Hint: New bus stops spotted along Buangkok Crescent.
I believe it will be a whole new service though
If the buangkok interchange opens, then this bus should to be extended to buangkok.
