What if they make the most epic long bus service with 62:
Punggol Temp Int -> EXISTING ROUTE till Sims Ave -> Kallang Rd -> Victoria St -> Bras Basah Rd/Stamford Rd -> Esplanade Dr -> Shenton Way/Anson Rd -> Keppel Rd -> AYE (Express) -> Jurong Town Hall Rd -> Bukit Batok Rd -> Plantation Cres -> Tengah Dr -> Tengah Blvd -> Tengah Int (to be amended to the ITH in future)
MRT Stations served:
NE17 Punggol, NE14 Hougang, CC11 Tai Seng, EW9 Aljunied, EW10 Kallang, EW11 Lavander, EW12 Bugis, EW13/NS25 City Hall, CC3 Esplanade, EW14/NS26 Raffles Place, TE19 Shenton Way, EW15 Tanjong Pagar
You get the idea. To give those Tengah ppl a faster connection to the city with the rarely congested AYE.
Y cannot end at Lor 1 Geylang Ter…?
Because formerly, Lorong 1 Geylang got DD restriction. And also, Lorong 1 Geylang cannot even accept so many bendy buses until 985 have to pullover from 190 or other services. In the past, only 980 was suitable & highly needed for bendies due to overcrowding. Bare in mind, Services 961 & 985 started DDs only in 2015 whereas Services 853 & 980 started quite later.
Those days, Lorong 1 Geylang wasn’t DD friendly. All SBST Services don’t actually terminate at GL1 due to this. That’s why SBST decided to loop at Lorong 1 Geylang due to DD deployments for 62. But it will be possible to go bidirectional to future Kallang ITH if warranted.
Last but not least, SBST only have infamous 11 at the time of shortening in December 2003. The rest are TIBS/SMRT Services 853, 961, 980 & 985 at that time. It is ONLY in 2007 – 2014 then welcome Services 140, 141 & 175.
This bus can be extanded to st micheals bus terminal. Via lavender st and balestier rd. This will give a gd connection to many areas for whampoa residents
