Train services on the East West Line was disrupted on the evening of 25 February 2021 after a 31-year old man intruded the eastbound tunnel near Kallang and was killed.
A C751B trainset, 329/330, was seen stalled outside the tunnel portal just before Kallang station, with Police and SCDF personnel on the tracks, accompanied by SMRT staff. Police and SCDF vehicles were also seen at multiple MRT stations.
It is not known how the person accessed the tracks. High fences are installed at the tunnel portal between Lavender and Kallang stations to prevent unauthorized access.
Train Service Suspension
Train services in both directions between Bugisand Aljuniedwere suspended from 10 pm till the end of service hours. Lavenderand Kallangstations were also closed to passengers.
Free Regular Bus Boarding & Bus Bridging Services were offered between Bugis and Aljunied stations. Go-Ahead Singapore and SMRT Buses contributed resources to operate the free bus bridging services, with the majority of buses from Go-Ahead.
Around 2100hrs: Train captain reports hitting an object near Kallang MRT station on the East-West Line towards Pasir Ris. Station manager found a motionless man about 150 metres from Kallang MRT station.
Around 2135hrs: SCDF receives call for help. A person was subsequently pronounced dead on the east-bound track near Kallang MRT Station.
2140hrs: Initial social media reports of train service disruption
2148hrs: SMRT issues announcement of train service disruption due to “an incident.” Bridging Bus Services activated. Disruption continues until the end of service hours.
