History:

Eunos Bus Terminal operated along Sims Avenue for some time before it was upgraded to a bus interchange in 1989 to link up with the newly opened Eunos MRT Station. Eunos Bus Interchange opened on Sunday, 10th Dec 1989, incorporating a Malay Minangkabau roof design to blend with the surrounding estate, and similar to that used for Eunos MRT. This adds to the Malay flavour in the region, which is close to Geylang Serai. The interchange opened with six services transferred from Eunos Bus Terminal, namely 3, 50, 94, 382, 385 and M4.

The bus interchange has a bus park with 30 layover bays underneath the elevated MRT tracks and a vehicular entrance and exit at Eunos Road 2. There are 2 alighting berths and 4 boarding berths.

Service 154 can be shortened to Bidadari, extend Svc 60 to Bidadari and cover Svc 154’s lost sectors.

The land parcel where Eunos Bus Interchange is located is designated as a green space in the URA master plan. Obviously, in future, when the government wants to open up the area, the big plot of empty land and the adjacent open space carpark, currently designated as reserved site in the URA master plan, will be developed into a major development, similar to the future Buangkok Integrated Transport Hub. By then, Eunos Bus Interchange will relocate there.

As compared to other bus interchanges that have yet to be replaced with Integrated Transport Hubs, the Eunos Bus Interchange plan is more obvious.

As to when the bus interchange will be replaced with Integrated Transport Hub, I believe this will depend on whether Eunos MRT Station’s passenger numbers can support the Integrated Transport Hub commercial activities.

Other than this, the other one is Red Hill MRT Station. The adjacent land parcel is currently empty and may have adequate space to build an Integrated Transport Hub to replace the existing Bukit Merah Bus Interchange.

Meanwhile, Harbourfront Bus Interchange, if they want, they can anytime open up the land parcels surrounding Harbourfront MRT Station to build office towers with an air-conditioned bus interchange at the ground floor, and let that development be an Integrated Transport Hub.

Currently, the only Integrated Transport Hub that has not opened is the Buangkok Integrated Transport Hub and the Bidadari Integrated Transport Hub.

The ones that are proposed are the Pasir Ris Integrated Transport Hub and the Jurong East Integrated Transport Hub.

Hopefully in the near future, Eunos and Harbourfront can also have Integrated Transport Hub.

Once the old industrial estate is demolished and more housing is built,Only then Eunos will have its authentic feeder service. For now 63M acts as a feeder.
