An SMRT bus was burned down along Woodlands Avenue 1 on 5 May 2026.
The Mercedes-Benz Citaro bus was parked at the bus stop outside Woodgrove Pr Sch, with its engine bay open and breakdown triangle deployed when it caught fire.
Footage of the burning bus were posted in videos circulating online. In response to the blaze, the Land Transport Authority posted on X regarding a road closure on the affected stretch of Woodlands Ave 1.

Bus stop infrastructure such as the bus stop pole and advertising panel were also affected by the fire.
The affected 15-year old bus, SMB142J, was believed to be on Bus Service 967 earlier before the incident, based on the location of the incident.
2026 Citaro Bus Fires
This incident is the third one involving Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses burning in 2026, with the earlier 2 reported incidents occurring on 13 Feb 2026 involving SBS6840D along the PIE, as well as SBS6381L on 30 Mar 2026 along the TPE.
I hope LTA will granted a lifespan extension of 2 years for Mercedes Benz Citaro Batch SMRT Buses, excluding SMB142J which was engulfed in flames, unless Woodlands Bus Depot will have an EV chargers installed before the new electric buses hit the roads to replace them.
