Service 139M formerly provided residents of St. Michael’s Estate and Balestier Road with greater connectivity to Toa Payoh MRT and Interchange, along with other amenities in the neighbourhood. The route served HDB Hub, Toa Payoh Town Park, Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall, HomeTeamNS – JOM@Balestier and Whampoa CC. This bus service was introduced under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP), as well as the third M-suffixed service under the BSEP.
The service duplicated Service 139, relieving demand and improving the reliability of bus services for commuters along 139’s most crowded stretches of the route. With Service 139 operating at low headway across most of the day, 139M enhanced connections along the high-demand sectors between Toa Payoh and St. Michael’s Estate.
Short Trip Service 139A, plying Toa Payoh Int → Kim Keat Rd (Opp Jumbo Ind Bldg) during weekday evening peak hours, was discontinued following the introduction of Service 139M owing to duplication.
Withdrawal
Service 139M was withdrawn on Sunday, 11 December 2022, with the last day of operations being the day before (Saturday, 10 December 2022). The withdrawal of Bus Service 139M came amidst ongoing rationalization of the bus network, with existing Bus Services 129 and 139 also connecting Toa Payoh–Whampoa along the same route.
Short Trip Service 139A was reintroduced to supplement weekday evening peak demand from Toa Payoh Bus Interchange to Whampoa. This time, the short trip service terminated at Jalan Bahagia (Bet Blks 33/34) instead of Kim Keat Road.
