Woodleigh Bus Interchange

Woodleigh Bus Interchange is a future Integrated Transport Hub (ITH) located at Bidadari, serving residential areas around Bidadari, Joo Seng and Potong Pasir.

The interchange is the first air-conditioned underground bus interchange to be built beneath public housing flats. It forms part of the HDB Woodleigh Village mixed-use development, offering 330 Build-to-Order (BTO) flats, a hawker centre, retail shops and other community amenities. Pedestrians can transfer to the North East Line via an underground link to Woodleigh MRT Station.

Plans for the interchange were confirmed in September 2014, and the interchange was then initially expected to be ready by 2019. The eventual construction contract for the interchange had a ready year of 2021. However, it is now expected to be completed by end-2024 due to delays.

Renaming:

The interchange was previously called Bidadari Bus Interchange, as referenced within the Land Transport Master Plan 2040 and exit directory signages at Woodleigh MRT station (as of May 2023).

In late 2023, the Land Transport Authority travel guide for the HDB Alkaff Breeze BTO project referred to the interchange as Woodleigh ITH (Link). The launch poster for Bus Service 146 (released January 2024) also used the name Woodleigh ITH, indicating a name change sometime in late 2023.

The Interchange:

Woodleigh Integrated Transport Hub is a bus interchange located in the residential town of Bidadari. Connecting with Woodleigh MRT Station along the North East MRT Line, the interchange is a transport node for commuters heading in and out of town, allowing for convenient transfers between the rail network and bus services at the interchange.

Located at Basement 2 of Woodleigh Village, it is the first underground air-conditioned bus interchange below Housing Board Flats in Singapore. The mixed-use development combines 330 HDB flats, retail shops, a Hawker Centre and other community amenities, hence combining retail, residential and transportation facilities under one roof.

The interchange site is bordered by Upper Serangoon Road to the west; Woodleigh Link to the north; Bidadari Park Drive to the east; and Heritage Walk (former Upper Aljunied Road) to the south.

In 2014, project plans for the interchange indicated that the interchange initially would be ready by 2019, as reported in The Straits Times back in September 2014. The Housing & Development Board later clarified on 25 February 2024 that the project was expected to be ready in 2021 based on the eventual construction contract in response to queries from The Straits Times. The delayed expected completion period to end-2024 was also due to “significant engineering challenges” and the Covid-19 pandemic.

When completed, Woodleigh Bus Interchange will join numerous Integrated Transport Hubs (ITH) to have been built in Singapore, after Toa Payoh, Sengkang, Ang Mo Kio, Boon Lay, Serangoon, Clementi, Bedok, Joo Koon, Bukit Panjang and Yishun.

The interchange has a single vehicular concourse area with a bus park in the middle, with 15 rigid bus lots and 3 bendy bus lots. Vehicles enter and exit the interchange via a combined ingress/egress leading to Bidadari Park Drive.

The passenger concourse features three sawtooth boarding berths and an alighting berth with space for 2 buses. Pedestrian entrances/exits are located within the interchange, leading to Woodleigh Village and Woodleigh MRT Station. One boarding berth and one alighting berth in the interchange are dedicated for bendy-bus operations, featuring an 18m long bus bay.

Future Developments

An underpass is expected to be constructed to link Woodleigh Bus Interchange with The Woodleigh Residences & The Woodleigh Mall, which form a mixed commercial and residential development integrated with a community club and neighbourhood police centre to the south of Woodleigh Village. Both developments will be connected to Woodleigh MRT Station via an underground link.

When the interchange opens i suggest if they amend 2 services here and 1 new feeder service
Service 154 (Boon Lay to Bidadari Park via Lakeside, Clementi & Bukit TIMAH) (Deleted sectors replaced by 61)
Service 155 (Bidadari Park to Bedok via Circuit Road, Joo Chiat, Siglap MRT, And Bedok Central East
New Feeder Service 310 (From Bidadari Park looping at Bartley MRT via Alkaff Crescent)

I predict Services 155, 142 and 506 might serve Bidadari. Service 142’s sectors in Potong Pasir can be bidirectional with red and white plate. Service 154 might be shortened here and Service 60 can be extended here to serve the lost sectors.

Bidadari might be under AMDEP/BRBP Control as Bidadari is near BRBP not HGDEP and under Bishan – Toa Payoh Bus Package. I wish SBS 154 can be shortened here, SBS 60 can be extended to start here instead. Cover SBS 154’s lost sector between MacPherson Rd/Estate.
