Spanning from Bedok to Bukit Merah, Service 16 connects the housing estates of Marine Parade, Old Airport, Bukit Merah and Tiong Bahru, as well as private estates around Joo Chiat and Upper East Coast, with connections to the City areas of Bras Basah, Orchard Road and Havelock. The route is well utilized between housing estates and the City, while also benefiting the Joo Chiat area with bus connections by plying a unique stretch of Joo Chiat Road.
The route complements Service 14 between the Mountbatten area and Orchard Road. Between Marine Parade and Orchard Road, the route complements Service 36 by often being less crowded, although taking a longer route. Demand for the service is moderate to high throughout the day owing to unique sectors and City-estate connections.
From September 2010, the route was amended to skip the Stadium area due to the construction of the new Singapore Sports Hub. Therefore, the Stadium area is currently only served by Service 11.
Double-deck buses were deployed to Service 16 from 9 March 2020 in tandem with the launch of Service 16M.

Seems like the Scania K230UBS that used to run on 160/170 is now on 16/16M since the withdrawnal from cross border services. In exchange, those Euro IV KUBS that were ex APAD/SPAD along with the Euro V KUBS replaced some MAN A22 Euro V & VI that went over to 160/170. Looks like the Euro IV KUBS is making a comeback to 16/16M although only probably two or less years left. Tbh lta would probably just send those remaining ex SPAD Euro IV KUBS to laid up and use whatever Citaros to cover up the MAN Buses they take. Good thing SBS is trying to make good use of whats left with those Euro IV Ex SPAD KUBS then sending them to laid up for a year…honestly a waste to those that had been laid up…lifespan havent end yet lay them up when still can use. Pros though is that storage buses are being used but…Cons other operators buses get taken -_-
now got man a22 euro V rojak logo perm deployment on service 16 and 131
I saw a MAN A22 Euro V (with SMRT livery) but with SBST logo on SBST bus 16 today
The bus stop opposite the National Stadium I think (if I’m not wrong)
SO COOL
AND VERY RARE
Nowadays I see those SMRT livery but with SBST logo
I remember those were the early SG1700 series that plied AMDEP before the transition to Tower Transit Singapore. TTS did not receive any SMRT units of this small SG plated fleet. I think SBS got it due to the replacement of the large non-refurbished fleet of Scania K230UB.
I saw a lot of Scania K23OUB buses on service 16 yesterday as I was in the area around Orchard and Marina Bay at night time from like 8pm to 8.30pm
