Go-Ahead Bus Service 36 is a loop service operating between Changi Airport and Tomlinson Road, via Marine Parade, Suntec City and Orchard, with express sectors along the East Coast Parkway (ECP). It is the only direct bus service between Changi Airport and the City areas.
At Changi Airport, Bus Service 36 calls at all passenger terminals, serving Terminals 3, 1, 2, then 4 in sequence. Although the route officially terminates at Terminal 2, passengers can continue their journey beyond Terminal 2 without incurring a new ride.

Bus Service 36 is a trunk route connecting Changi Airport, Marine Parade, and the City areas, with express sectors along the East Coast Parkway (ECP). Within the City, it serves the Suntec City, City Hall, Dhoby Ghaut, and Orchard.
For the Marine Parade–City connection, Bus Service 36 is a popular option for commuters and sees high demand during weekday peak hours and weekends. This sector is supplemented by Short Trip 36B during weekday peak hours. This connection is also served by Service 16, which travels along a different route via Nicoll Highway and Tanjong Katong; and by the Thomson-East Coast Line, which also links Marine Parade with Orchard.
For the Changi Airport–City connection, Bus Service 36 is the only direct bus route linking Changi Airport and the City. However, it is less popular compared to alternatives like the East West Line, Airport-City Shuttle, or taxis, due to longer travel times.
Service 36 is currently the only route to terminate at Changi Airport; all other public bus services loop at the Airport. The route also does not call at Airport Blvd (Near SATS Flight Kitchen). It is also the only service to stop at ECP (Aft E.C. Sea Sports Club) bus stop within Carpark F3 of East Coast Park, the only bus stop along the ECP.
Luggage Racks
A 3-month trial, starting on 17 August 2025, involved converting one of the two wheelchair bays into a luggage rack on a MAN A22 Euro 6 bus (registration SG1754P).
In April 2026, the Land Transport Authority disclosed plans to equip 12 more buses with luggage racks, following the success of the earlier trial. Buses with luggage racks would be deployed at staggered intervals to ensure that every other bus is equipped with a luggage rack, accommodating the needs of both passengers travelling to the airport and other wheelchair users.
Operations
At Changi Airport, Bus Service 36 calls at all passenger terminals, serving Terminals 3, 1, 2, and 4 in sequence.
Bus Service 36 operates in a continuous loop. At the route’s official terminus (Terminal 2), passengers wishing to continue their journey after Terminal 2 can stay onboard the bus while a new Bus Captain takes over, without incurring a new ride. This practice is referred to as clowbus (crew layover without bus), where bus drivers rotate themselves between buses and do not stick to a permanent bus for the day (Bus Service 92 is the only other bus service operating in a continuous loop).
During the late night hours, Service 36 operates half-trips terminating in the City as Short Trip 36A.
For certain trips that terminate at Changi Airport Terminal 2, the T suffix is used, and buses operate as Service 36T.
Changi Airport Operations Specifics
Changi Airport Passenger Terminal Buildings (PTBs) 1, 2 and 3 have their bus stops integrated into their basement levels, which also serves as a cargo loading and unloading bay. Security checks for any unattended or suspicious articles are carried out before a bus enters Terminal 3. Due to height restrictions, double-decker buses are unable to enter Changi Airport basement.
Occasionally when Changi Airport basement is closed, buses may be diverted to the Departure Halls of the respective terminals, where a temporary bus stop will be set up.
Announcements for passengers to inform the Bus Captain if they see any suspicious person or article are played on board public buses at Changi Airport.

Service 36 should not be cut or rationalised due to TEL4, as it still has very healthy demand patterns and remains the only Marine Parade-Airport and Airport-City link, as well as being FASTER than the TEL from Marine Parade to Orchard. This is evident in Service 36 in between Marine Parade and the City being overcrowded during peak hours, and sometimes even during non-peak hours. In fact, Marine Parade/East Coast commuters even prefer taking Service 14 with NO express sectors, as even that is faster than the TEL. If any rationalisation is to be undertaken, it should be more of a division of Service 36 into the following services:
Service 36 (Changi Airport – Amber Road)
Original route until Marine Parade, then loop via Marine Parade Road -> Amber Road -> Mountbatten Road -> East Coast Road -> Still Road South, effectively replacing the looping sector of Service 47. Could also be potentially extended via Service 196’s routing to Shenton Way if 196 gets rationalised.
Service 47 (Changi Business Park – Tomlinson Road)
Original route until Marine Parade, then loop at Tomlinson Road via Service 36’s current routing. Since the only part of Service 36’s routing that is height-restricted is Changi Airport, Service 47 can utilise DDs.
Service 636 (Changi Airport – Tomlinson Road)
Current route of Service 36 but runs express from Changi Airport Ter 4 to Suntec. I believe that commuters would be willing to pay premium fares for this express service from the airport to the city, effectively becoming a Airport City Direct service.
By splitting Service 36 as such, it would be much easier to run necessary buses with the demand, would allow for DDs to help Service 14 along the East Coast/Marine Parade-Orchard sector, as well as introduce an express service from the airport to the city, allowing travelers with potential heavy luggage to be separated from regular commuters on Service 36, and offering a quick and cheap alternative to the EWL and Taxis in that sector.
