Service 47 connects the residential towns of Marine Parade and Bedok South with Changi Business Park, as well as enhancing public bus connections around Changi Buisness Park with a new route to Tanah Merah MRT. A unique loop sector via Amber Road, Mountbatten Road and East Coast Road (eastbound) provides better connectivity with the vibrant section of East Coast Road, with its shopping malls and old shophouses.

It is the fiftieth (50th) bus service to be introduced under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP). The launch of Service 47 along with Service 118 also marked the start of operations of the new Changi Business Park Bus Terminal.

The route serves educational institutions such as Victoria School, as well as shopping centres such as Changi City Point, Parkway Parade, Katong Shopping Centre, Roxy Square and i12 Katong Mall.
