BAS.MY Johor Bahru is the rebranded stage bus network serving Johor Bahru and surrounding areas in Johor, Malaysia. Officially launched on 1 October 2025, it succeeds the myBAS Johor Bahru branding, under which bus services were progressively introduced from March 2022 as part of Malaysia’s Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) programme.
The network continues to be operated by Handal Indah Sdn. Bhd. (Causeway Link). The rebranding was accompanied by changes to bus service numbers, route amendments and service improvements, which took effect on 30 September 2025.
Bus Service Network
BAS.MY Johor Bahru bus services carry the J-prefix, replacing the former T- and F-prefixed service numbers under myBAS Johor Bahru. The network has undergone several route amendments and service improvements since its rebranding on 1 October 2025.

Upcoming — Network Revision for RTS Link
Further revisions to the BAS.MY Johor Bahru bus network are planned ahead of the opening of the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link in February 2027.
During the BAS.MY Johor Bahru service expansion launch on 8 October 2026, several proposed new bus services and route amendments were showcased. These changes form part of a broader network expansion, which will see the bus fleet increase from 162 to 230 buses, with targeted service intervals of 15–20 minutes for main routes and 20–30 minutes for feeder routes.
A new bus hub is also planned along Jalan Jim Quee, providing connectivity to the RTS Link’s Bukit Chagar station. From 20 December 2026, Jalan Jim Quee is expected to be restricted to buses and taxis, with private vehicles prohibited from entering to facilitate bus operations.
The following route changes were previewed at the October 2026 event:
- J10 – Amended to serve Larkin Sentral
- J15 – Extended from Mid Valley Southkey to AEON Mall Bandar Dato’ Onn
- New Service
J17 – JB Sentral ↔ Ulu Tiram Bus Terminal - New Service
J45 – JB Sentral ↔ Mall of Medini, via Larkin Sentral - New Service
J101 – Pasar Borong Pandan ↔ AEON Mall Bandar Dato’ Onn - New Service
J301 – Terminal Taman U ↔ Paradigm Mall, via Universiti Teknologi Malaysia
Note: Some existing services, such as J100, were not included in the proposed revisions. Their future status remains unclear. Final route alignments, implementation dates and operating details have yet to be officially announced.

BAS.MY Operating Framework
The Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) programme adopts a gross-cost contracting model, under which the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) oversees bus network planning and fare revenue. Bus operators are compensated based on a Vehicle Operating Cost (VOC) per kilometre rate and are required to meet specified service performance standards.
Under this arrangement, operators are paid to operate prescribed routes at specified frequencies, rather than relying directly on fare revenue. This allows socially necessary but commercially unviable routes to be maintained.
The framework is conceptually similar to Singapore’s Bus Contracting Model, under which the Land Transport Authority (LTA) contracts bus operators to provide bus services while retaining fare revenue.
BAS.MY Framework
Johor Bahru local bus services, under the BAS.MY Johor Bahru brand, is funded by the Federal government under the Stage Bus Service Transportation (SBST) programme. First introduced in 2015, SBST was designed to address the long-standing weaknesses of Malaysia’s stage bus industry by stabilising operator income and ensuring consistent service quality. Using public funding, the programme supports expanded routes, higher service frequencies, and the renewal of bus fleets.
The scheme adopts a gross-cost contracting model, where the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) assumes responsibility for network planning, operating costs, and fare revenue. Operators are compensated based on a Vehicle Operating Cost (VOC) per kilometre rate and must meet defined service performance standards. This structure shifts financial risk away from operators and ensures that commuter needs—rather than operator profitability—drive network planning.
The SBST scheme thus marks a departure from the conventional farebox-reliant model, where bus operators struggled to sustain services on socially necessary but commercially unviable local bus routes. Recognising that public transport is essential for affordability and mobility, the new framework pays bus operators to run specified routes at set frequencies, while fare revenue is redirected to the government. This approach is conceptually similar to Singapore’s Bus Contracting Model, where the Land Transport Authority (LTA) tenders routes to operators and retains fare revenue.
Funding & Ridership
On 3 November 2025, Transport Minister Anthony Loke reported that the Johor Bahru SBST programme had recorded its highest monthly ridership that year, reaching 940,000 passengers. The Federal Government also committed RM134.94 million over two years, equivalent to RM67.47 million annually, to sustain bus operations.
Contract Extension
On 8 October 2026, HI Mobility Berhad announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Handal Indah Sdn. Bhd., had received a non-binding letter of intent from the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) for the continued operation of the BAS.MY Johor Bahru network.
The proposed contract covers the period from 1 January 2027 to 31 March 2031. The appointment remains subject to further negotiations and the finalisation of contractual terms, including the scope of services and contract value.
