Service 114 is a residential trunk route linking the housing estates at Buangkok Crescent to the transport node of Buangkok MRT station & Bus Interchange.
The route primarily benefits residents along Buangkok Link and Buangkok Crescent, offering convenient access to Buangkok MRT station. The estate was previously served by Bus Services 101 and 329, both of which connected to Hougang MRT station.
Buses used to layover at Compassvale Bus Interchange prior to its amendment to start and end at Buangkok Bus Interchange with its opening on 1 December 2024.
Cancelled Service 101 Extension to Buangkok MRT Station
Originally planned as a route extension for Service 101 from Buangkok Crescent to Buangkok MRT station to take effect from 11 October 2020, the amendment was cancelled following feedback raised by commuters. In particular, concerned was raised regarding the skipping of two bus stops along Buangkok Link as part of the amendment.
In lieu of this planned route extension, Service 114 was introduced from Buangkok MRT Station to loop at Buangkok Crescent instead. No changes were made to existing Bus Services 101 and 329.

The Bus Service Operating License (BSOL) for this route will be renewed under the Sengkang–Hougang Bus Package, in which the negotiated contract term was extended by an undisclosed number of years from 2024.
History:

Why service 114 so shortest trunk route in Singapore has double decker bus! The LTA never think carefully at all ! So ridiculous! Hope they next time all full single decker bus without double decker bus in the outcoming future as soon as possible! Ridiculous!
115 may even be shorter.
Yes I agree with you that it is useful for the people there, but the problem is with the operational side, no way they gonna attract many people if it only serves the MRT and running at 15 min frequencies, the demand is also fairly low too. I rode on one of the A95s during peak hours, most people alighted at the third stop of the journey, so people just stayed at the lower deck of the bus, with a grand total of 4 people going up to the upper deck… The double decker buses can definitely be more useful than that by putting it on 72 and making it fully double deck. If they really wanted capacity they should have used the A22 Euro 6s currently stored in the depots around singapore (100+ of them stored!!), which has tonnes of standing space, perfect for this route, but they went to go put fresh A95 Euro 6 DDs on this route, so I have really no idea what on earth they are thinking with this route, with a tiny catchment area.
They should extend bus 114 route to Compassvale bus interchange held in Sengkang central so that there will be more commuters taking this route all the way. It will also be more convinient for those people who wanted to travel to Changi int Airport. As for now Buangkok bus Int hub is still under construction.
If 114 route is like that then when Buangkok ITH is open introduce bus 114M to ply 114’s current route
Don have to extend to Compassvale intercharge there are already 27 serving, waste time , space.
114 alr layovers at Compassvale. Think again
Yesterday was new bus service 114 first day. I saw the route videos on YouTube. I personally have impression of that area, because I used to run along the park connector as part of the North-Eastern Riverine Loop.
To be honest, the route is a bit short. Using double decker buses on the new bus service 114 is obviously to test whether living along the route residents would switch to take the new bus service 114.
I would expect the authorities to give the new bus service 114 a trial period of about one month, to see whether living along the route residents got switch to take the new bus service 114.
Thereafter, if only a few people take, the new bus service 114 would probably only use single decker buses to carry passengers. If got many people take, then I believe that area’s bus services may have some adjustments.
Basically, this is an experiment. That area has relatively many vacant land. This bus service 114 should not be now launch, instead many years later then launch.
Nonetheless, hopefully bus service 114 can have enough passenger loading to sustain the operations. The connection to Buangkok MRT Station is good. But whether can sustain, really pending observation.
Is LTA really run by a bunch of baffoons? Do they actually think people will go up to the upper deck for a 2-3 stop journey… Plus this extremely short route is running like 15 min frequency, doesn’t even make sense at all. Since this route has buses laying over at Compassvale already they should have added some bus stops so that it can serve more people instead of running empty to compassvale. LTA probably had a huge budget surge so the bus planners can splurge on wasteful initiatives to get particular MPs reelected, like that 976 disaster…
I have not tried taking the bus during peak hours yet to opine on the feasibility of double deckers, but this route is definitely necessary for residents staying in the new Buangkok HDB estate. Not just that, the flats which were only served by 101 since many years ago.
If you do not reside in that area, you have no idea how frustrating it is to take 20-25 mins to get to Hougang MRT via 101 or 329 which are super winding in nature with many traffic lights along the way. I can’t say for evening peak (as residents may be heading to HG to get dinner etc.), but for morning peak, definitely people are gonna take 114 instead of 101/329 to the nearest MRT with the amount of time saved. A 15 minute frequency is bad indeed. Also, I have seen single deckers being at least half full, even during off peak hours on the weekends. I doubt this service will render useless; rather, I expect loading on 329 to fall significantly.
I feel that it’d be better if we instead cancelled 114 in return for extending BOTH 101 and 329 to Buangkok MRT and boosting the frequencies of these two routes using the buses allocated to 114 (a few, given the dumb arrangement of laying over at Compassvale). It’s best of both deals – convenient link to Buangkok, convenient link to Hougang Ctrl, and no need to wait so long – have zero idea why the original proposal to extend 101 to Buangkok got kicked out by the residents (no answer from LTA after writing to them, haiyaa). Recently I went to check the area and noted how bus 101 still has a higher loading than bus 114. (and before someone points out fleet difference, note that both buses were double-deck, so really it is demand diff). The reason why people refuse to ride bus 329 (preferring 114 over it) is not because of the winding route and traffic lights – it’s because the intervals for HG feeders are a big mess. That same day I was also timing the feeder buses at HG Ctrl Int (using the buses coming in) and it was quite a shock to note that intervals for 329 go up as high as 20 minutes during morning peak hours, with a lot of bunching!
