Sincerely hope the route planners know our ground situation and modify this 2 loop feeders at least for the short term? I saw Mr Jeffrey Siow’s comment that routes will change as the town grows. However it doesn’t seem very cost effective right now. I see them empty or just having a handful of passengers each time, bus captain waits at the bus stop for infinity before moving off. I believe 831 is important for Parc Glen residents to access Bukit Batok Road bus stops. As for Parc Point, after more BTOs TOP and more shops open, we may see higher ridership. It will be great when Hong Kah MRT opens, but that’s at least 2 years later. 2030 Tengah Hospital, and future Town Central, both are 4 years later.
Maybe an added road served will improve the ridership for now, until future changes. For some areas such as Parc Flora/Parc Woods or Garden Vines, given the low frequency right now, it’s a long wait plus almost a full loop to arrive at Parc Point, making it easier to go Interchange take 831G or walk… I will gladly take 831 if the frequency improves.. but with low ridership, is there an incentive to improve frequency? And at what point will we see higher ridership to justify higher frequency?
As for 181, doesn’t seem intended to serve much of Tengah. Probably in future it goes Brickland or Forest Hill district and Town central after they are completed. I don’t know. It’s fun to speculate and read everyone’s theories then more fun to see the surprise routes haha.
Bus stops along Tengah Link?? Have they gone mad??
Was not expecting them to take the Hub-Spoke concept so wildly such that they force bus stops along a tiny stretch of road just for people to transfer from 831G/W to the other trunks (870 871 992). I genuinely hope this pair of stops are short lived, for the simple reason that it is possible for 872 to almost entirely take over the western sectors of 831 (Central & Garden Ave) and connect them to Dulwich College (where better transfers to other trunks can be made).
Once this happens, I believe 831G/W might be slightly modified to become 831, anchoring it’s loop alongside Hong Kah MRT to preserve its connections while connecting to more places such as a future school & the nearby business district. It helps connect 831 to an alternative MRT station (Hong Kah) so high demand can be split both ways instead of everyone funneling into Tengah MRT
Tengah – Tengah Ctrl/Dr/Way (Loop) basically instead of plying Central straight into Tengah Int.
Yes I don’t understand bus stop at Tengah Link too… was there demand raised for this location, or other plans they have… genuinely curious why~~~~
I feel that 831 could be short lived, and eventually 181 will take over its route at Tengah Garden Avenue, Bukit Batok Road, Tengah Park Avenue, while another bus service (either 871 or 992, to reduce duplication) will take over its route at Tengah Central and Tengah Drive.
That is when 181 extends to Tengah. It will probably be via Tengah Central, in which the section linking to Jurong West Avenue 2 is not ready yet, that’s why not yet announced, and temporarily have 831 to cover that route.
And if 181 goes that route, it will benefit Pioneer Primary School staff members who probably mostly live in Jurong West, as well as enable a secondary school in Jurong West (along 181 route) to move over to Tengah about 4 years before Tengah children start to require a secondary school in their town (am honestly guessing that Westwood Secondary School may move over to Tengah, since Tengah forest town and Westwood Secondary School complement each other very well)(if really the case, affected Westwood Secondary School students and teachers can take 181 to go to their new school at Tengah).
Anyway, the above is my personal speculation. 831 may or may not be an interim service. It may well be a permanent service. Only time will reveal how things will eventually turn out.
I think LTA purposely plan this way as they knew that many residents will eventually take those 2 svc to the future MRT?
I think in 2027, LTA will extend operating hours to 00:50.
831G/W will not be removed trust me. In future no more residents will use this feeder for sure. All those loadings 181 can’t even tank.
Looks like 83x series will be dedicated for the feeders in Tengah town.
On a side note, the service reminds me of the Taiwanese band that goes by the name 831.
Next will be 831G…Make sense for Int to have feeder svc.
Sorry I mean 832G/W also…. By the way Bulim got enough buses to cater for those new and extended svc?
yes there is some smrt a22 e5 have transfer from GBBD to BUDEP
