Back to Bus Services

this route should likely be a temporary bus service towards tengah.
once JRL opens this service likely withdrawn or being amendment. they should make a bus towards yewtee instead of duplicate the JRL MRT . yewtee needed a trunk service rather than waiting for DTL extension with many many years to come.
That’s the point now, A short trunk duplicate MRT lines for the convenience of commuters especially seniors… Elderly reluctant take take MRT for a few stops and this svc prove useful when MRT breakdown.
This service does not form part of the temporary shuttle bus services scheduled to commence operations approximately six months prior to the opening of Stage 1 of the Jurong Region Line (JRL).
It would honestly be far better if instead of 874 operating from Tengah Interchange and looping at CCK MRT, 874 could run from CCK Interchange and loop within the residential estates in Tengah, following Tengah Boulevard -> Plantation Crescent -> Tengah Garden Avenue -> Tengah Garden Walk -> Tengah Drive -> Tengah Boulevard. This would allow most Tengah residents to have a direct bus to CCK, instead of going through the hassle of taking 181/831/870/871/872/992 to Tengah Interchange then transferring to 874 just to go to nearby amenities in CCK. It would also be better if 874 was operated by SMRT under CCK-BPJ package, since Bulim Package is already very large. The GBDEP clearly has many spares, evident from the many recent transfers A22/Citaro transfers to LYDEP, ECDEP and BNDEP.
Since some are saying that the reason why 874 does not terminate at CCK Interchange is due to capacity issues at CCK, I propose that instead 874 could originate at Gali Batu Terminal. Here is my proposed full routing for 874:
Gali Batu Ter, Jln Gali Batu, Stagmont Ring, CCK North 5, CCK Dr, CCK Ave 4, CCK Ave 3, CCK Ave 1, CCK Ave 6, (Brickland Rd, Bt Batok Rd, Tengah Pk Ave), Tengah Blvd, Plantation Cres, Tengah Gdn Ave, Tengah Gdn Wk, Tengah Dr, Tengah Blvd, (Tengah Pk Ave, Bt Batok Rd, Brickland Rd), CCK Ave 6, CCK Ave 1, CCK Ave 3, CCK Ave 4, CCK Drive, CCK North 5, Stagmont Ring, Jln Gali Batu
This would not only make better use of bus resources, but also allow for better direct connectivity in between CCK and the inner estates of Tengah, while also creating an alternative to 307 along CCK North 5. When Tengah Blvd is complete, 874 can shift onto the new road skipping Brickland Rd, Bt Batok Rd and Tengah Pk Ave. 874 can also have a future use beyond an interim service this way, as in the future when the JRL opens it could either be amended to loop deeper into Tengah, or it could be cut short to loop at Brickland Cres, becoming like a CCK Townlink/Intratown service.
Bulim will eventually move to Tengah depot which is slightly bigger in term of parking space than Gali Batu and just like GB and Sengkang West they will need to transfer out their diesel buses to non EV depot once they’re the EV buses are allocated to the. I got a feeling 874 will serve a few more stops in Tengah in future.
From Tengah Bus Interchange, the key surrounding corridors are north towards Sungei Buloh, north-east towards Choa Chu Kang (Teck Whye), east towards Hillview, south-east towards Bukit Batok, south towards Jurong East, south-west towards Boon Lay, and west towards Lim Chu Kang Cemetery.
With the proposed new service, the main remaining gaps would be connectivity to Lim Chu Kang Cemetery, Sungei Buloh and Teck Whye.
One practical solution would be to divert Service 975 to Tengah, truncating the existing Teck Whye–Bukit Panjang sector and routing the service via ITE West and Bukit Batok Road to Tengah Bus Interchange.
lol. you can just take 874 drop off at sunshine to go lck cemetery dey since 975 serves that too.
anyways, alot of ppl takes 975 from hillion to go cck and beyond, especially the workers and cck ave 3 residents. the route is alrdy perfect for 20+ years, why you wanna propose change to a major route. imagine some army guy wanna take dtl but using your route, they can’t without having to change.
moreover, not a lot ppl goes cemetery from tengah. also, 975 has more reach with the current route, linking lck for the rest of singapore since cck and bp alrdy have mrt lines that goes somewhere in sg. what does tengah even have??
waste money to duplicate JRL line
874 can be further amended via Tengah Drive, Tengah Central and Tengah Park Avenue in the near future, and including Brickland Crescent, Brickland Lane and Tengah Boulevard in the near future.
300 will be amended to skip Blk 457 and Blk 475 bus stops.
