Maybe this service was launched when SMRT had their full batches of MAN A95s (not 3-door ones)

Instead of buying new bendies for feeders which they say use a lot of spaces,They keep on adding buses and M variant which is redundant..Just extend the 901 route and use 9 SD and 5 BD for this route..912/913M another wasted service

      901 can use 7 SD & 3 BD while 901M can use 3 SD & 3 DD

Also don’t forget that most locations only serve a single direction. So if the longer route is permanent could you imagine the hassle. I would rather suggest adding an additional bus service (i.e. 905…etc) that serves a different area and gives people an option.

Bendy buses DO use alot of spaces and carry lesser people than double deckers. I for one feel that having a separate bus service (M variant) will work better than your suggestion because extending the route on the main service will mean more people on board and a longer time to reach a destination due to congestion, not the distance. It gives people a choice of which direction they prefer.

I drove both bendy and double deck buses,In terms of seats DD is more but maximum capacity is bendy buses..Yes it would take slightly more but again the deployment should be alternately not sequential type.

But as with such supplimentary service, it always tend to bunch up with the parent service, rendering the extra service redundant. This is always what happen to 912M, a huge waste that should be scrapped from day 1… 903/M always tend to bunch up always, but LTA doesn’t count that as bunching so they just deploying how they like it for the sake of their convenience.
And for bendy buses, the point of it in feeder routes is to have large volumes of people entering and exiting quickly and efficiently. Double deckers have staircases which increase dwell time at bus stops and bus interchange, just go see the disaster that is 806, 3 min run time between 2 bus stops 150 metres away during peak hours, and then you see its fleet, mostly DDs. Another thing is that due to the short distance travelled most peoplw are not willing to go up to the upper deck, rendering the upper deck less useful, so with bendies you have even distrubution of commuters across the bendy bus, giving people more space compared to people crowding on the lower deck of a DD. So despite being slightly longer and using up more space, the dwell times will be shorter than a DD, so the effect is essentially the same, with the bendy bus giving people a more comfortable and faster ride.
