First BYD J6 autonomous bus destined for public trials arrives in Singapore

The first BYD J6 Autonomous Bus for the Autonomous Bus Pilot has arrived in Singapore.

In a reel released by the Land Transport Authority on 25 March 2026, one BYD J6 is seen being unloaded from the vehicle carrier Hyperion Leader.

The bus is decked out in the lush green SG Bus livery, featuring 1 wheelchair bay and 16 seats comprising 5 red priority seats and 11 regular blue seats.

Six of these buses have been procured, and are expected to begin trials on public bus services 400 and 191 from mid-2026 for an initial period of three years.

Bus service 825 is a shuttle bus service can operate by BYD J6 too, unfortunately it’s not operated by Sundays and Public Holidays same as bus service 138M.

It’s ironic that they are marketing all of the safety features and the comprehensive testing of the buses when the basics are being so clearly overlooked. The access to the rear interior of the bus is via a plethora of awkward steps, some which are actually marked as not suitable for stepping on. It’s a huge step backwards for the passenger experience and for passenger safety too.
It seems anything passes as acceptable these days.

This honestly looks like an up-sized version of the toy vehicle that some children ride on when they were before primary school age.
