Tengah Bus Interchange

Tengah Bus Interchange is an interim Bus Interchange with the Tengah New Town. It is bounded by Tengah Park Avenue, Tengah Boulevard, and the Parc Woods @ Tengah residential estate.

The interim bus interchange commenced operations on Sunday, 21 July 2024. This facility is not to be confused with the upcoming Tengah Integrated Transport Hub, which will be built at Tengah Town Centre, adjacent to Tengah MRT Station (Jurong Region Line).

Tengah Bus Interchange serves Bus Services 870, 871, and 992.

Brief History

In December 2019, the construction tender for the bus interchange (Contract PT396 – Proposed Design and Construction of Bus Interchange and Associated Works at Tengah Boulevard) was put up by the Land Transport Authority. This contract was awarded to Tat Hin Builders Pte Ltd in October 2020. The location of the interchange was also indicated within Tengah town maps issued by the Housing and Development Board (HDB) in 2020.

Tengah Bus Interchange opened on Sunday, 21 July 2024. Bus Services 870 & 992, which were loop services, were extended to serve the new interchange and become bi-directional services. A new bus service, 871, was also introduced on the same day, connecting Tengah New Town with Bukit Gombak and Beauty World.

Tengah Bus Interchange has three alighting and six boarding berths, with vehicle access via a signalised intersection with Tengah Boulevard.

Future Plans

The interchange is likely to be an interim facility, as it is zoned for residential use under the URA Master Plan 2019. Another bus interchange is being built to serve Tengah New Town—Tengah Integrated Transport Hub—which is situated adjacent to Tengah MRT Station (Jurong Region Line).

In line with current LTA naming conventions, interim and/or temporary bus interchanges no longer carry the “Temporary” name.

Article Name Change

This article was formerly titled “Tengah Boulevard Bus Interchange”, referencing the name used within the construction. It was changed to “Tengah Bus Interchange” in October 2023, referencing signages mounted at the new interchange and a Facebook post shared by local Member of Parliament Dr. Amy Khor.

Once 870 & 992 amend, they will probably become the shortest bidirectional trunks ever.

Same design as Jurong Town Hall BI, just green.

Other bus services should amend here:
    171, 173 (both convert to bidirectional), 175, 506.

Service 173 could also extend to Tengah Interchange maybe in August or September this year and become a bidirectional service from Clementi to Tengah via Toh Tuck, Beauty World, Hillview & Bukit Batok

Same for service 852 could extend to Tengah Interchange in like August or September from Yishun and also 852 could amend to ply Bukit Batok East Avenue 2 to serve residents to get to Places like Tengah, Bukit Timah, Ang Mo Kio & Yishun with a direct bus.

Clementi doesn’t have the spare lots for 173..LTA also has plan to add one service also.

In future Bulim might be renamed as Tengah-Jurong East package

21/7/24: Tengah Bus Interchange will officially open, 871 will begin operations in Tengah Bus Interchange. Amy Khor was right when she said interchange will open in July.

Seems that lta will fill up the services here with mainly 87x services, similar to how 85x services dominate yishun and how 96x and 97x dominate woodlands and Bukit Panjang respectively. Here are more 87x services to join tengah

    Svc 872: Tengah – Harbourfront
Svc 873: Tengah – Sg discovery centre (loop)
Svc 874: Boon Lay – Tengah Garden (Loop) (does not serve tengah int)
Svc 875: Tengah – Shenton Way
Svc 876: Tengah – Upp East Coast
Svc 877: Bukit Batok – Tuas Ter (does not serve tengah int but passes through tengah instead)
    Svc 878: Tengah – Woodleigh
Svc 879: Tengah – Sungei Kadut MRT (Loop)

    Other services to amend to tengah int include 97, 97e, 173, 177, 180, 183, 196, 198 & 506.

    Services to pass through tengah (including the above mentioned services) include 157, 160, 172, 174, 176, 188, 868, 874, 877 & 975

      Here’s my suggestion.

Services 172 & 174 can serve Tengah without serving the Interchange

Services 173, 176, 177, 178 & 506 can extend or amend to Tengah Bus Interchange.

Service 173 will extend to Tengah and renumber to service 992. Service 173 (Also known as 992) will be a service running from Tengah to Clementi passing via Bukit Batok, Hillview, Beauty World & Toh Tuck. 992 will be a bidirectional service from Clementi to Tengah.

Service 176 could amend to Tengah, from Bukit Merah passing via Telok Blangah, Pasir Panjang, West Coast Park, Pandan Reservoir, Jurong East & Bukit Batok West. New service 877 will replace the lost sectors of 176. Service 870 will also be withdrawn with service 176 covering almost the whole route of service 870 from Jurong East to Tengah. Service

Service 177 will extend to Tengah Interchange and looping at Jelebu Road passing via Plantation Plaza, Jurong East, Toh Guan, Bukit Batok, Hillview & Upper Bukit Timah. Service 177 will operate full day 24/7 from the morning to night (except for when service 177M is in operation). Service 177 amendment to Jurong East is to replace lost sectors of service 506.
There will be a supplementary service 177M which will run from Tengah to Bukit Panjang MRT(Loop) passing via Plantation Plaza, Jurong East, Toh Guan, Bukit Batok, Hillview, MINDEF & Upper Bukit Timah. Service 177M will serve MINDEF to replace lost sectors of the old route of service 177 in Mindef and will operate only on weekdays in the morning from 5 to 9 am and in the late afternoon from 4 to 6pm.

Service 506 will amend to Tengah Interchange, from Serangoon ITH passing via Woodleigh, Toa Payoh, PIE & Bukit Batok. Service 177 will replace the lost sectors from Bukit Batok West to Jurong East MRT.

New Bus Services serving Tengah Bus Interchange:

Service 872 will be a service operated by Tower Transit. Running from Tengah to Harbourfront passing via Bukit Batok West, Bukit Gombak South, Bukit Batok East, Beauty World, Ulu Pandan, Ghim Moh, Holland Village, Queensway, Dawson Road, Alexandra Road, Bukit Merah & Telok Blangah. Service 872 will ply Bukit Batok Street 51, 52, Bukit Batok East Avenue 2/3/6 to cover up lost sectors of service 871.

Service 871 will skip Bukit Batok Street 52 & East Avenue 2. And ply Bukit Batok East Avenue 5/4 to serve a connective route for a direct link to Little Guilin and Bukit Batok East View HDB from places like Beauty World & Tengah.

Service 873 will be a service running from Tengah and looping at Singapore Discovery Centre, replacing lost sectors of service 178 from Jurong Town Hall to Boon Lay. And service 873 will also ply Pioneer ROad North, PIE & upper jurong Road.

Service 877 will be a service operated by SBS Transit running from Buangkok to Tengah passing via Bukit Batok, Hillview, Upper Bukit Timah, Woodlands Road, Mandai, Sembawang Road, Springleaf MRT, SLE, TPE & Sengkang East Road. Service 877 will cover lost sectors of service 877 from Bukit Batok West to Bukit Panjang MRT Station.

What… that’s it? All the hype for this interchange just for this? Seems like LTA gave up on long trunk services and want to force people to transfer to nearby MRTs. No long trunk services extended here? Also what’s the point of making 870 and 992 bi-directional when their routes were already very short to begin with and why doesn’t 871 serve Bukit Gombak MRT stop directly?
