A train depot is where trains are stabled and maintained. In Singapore, train depots support the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT) lines which form the backbone of the local rapid transit network. They are essential facilities for train operations, with every train line being served by at least one depot.
Train Depots usually come with the following facilities:
- Administration building (with control centres)
- Train maintenance workshop
- Train stabling areas
- Locomotive stabling & workshop
- Permanent way workshop
- Train wash
- Paint shop
- Test track
