(Defunct) SBS Transit Express Bus Service 147e

SBS Transit Express Bus Service 147e was a Limited Stop Express route variant of Service 147, plying between Clementi and Clarke Quay throughout the day. It passed through Buona Vista, Commonwealth, Queensway, Outram Park and Chinatown, skipping Jalan Bukit Merah.

The bus service only callled at selected bus stops along its parent route. Along with Service 12e, both new services were introduced on Sunday, 28 January 2018. It was withdrawn on 9 February 2020, with the last day of operations on 8 February 2020.

Bus Service 147e was a former Limited-stop Express Bus Service which offered quicker journeys for commuters at Clementi, Buona Vista, Commonwealth and Queensway, linking them with the Central areas of Outram Park, Chinatown and Clarke Quay. Operating throughout the day, it only called at selected bus stops served by its parent Bus Service 147, and charged Express Fares as a result.

In between Queensway and Outram Park, the bus plied an express sector along the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) and Jalan Bukit Merah in both directions. The route operated daily at 20-minute intervals during the peak hours, and 30-minute intervals during the off-peak hours.

Buses layover at Kampong Bahru Bus Terminal after terminating at Clarke Quay.

Service 147e was the third new route to be introduced under the Bus Contracting Model (BCM) after Service 12e, as well as the second limited-stop service to operate daily. The use of the lowercase e as the service suffix has its origins from Fast-Forward services introduced by SBS Transit in 2005, which are limited-stop services operating only during the peak hours. SBS Transit used the Fast-Forward branding for Service 147e from launch until 12 August 2018, where it was renamed as Express 147e.

By plying express between Clementi and Chinatown, its routing is reminiscent of the defunct Chinatown Direct CT28 which was withdrawn in September 2016.

After over 2 years of operations, Express 147e was withdrawn on 9 February 2020, due to low demand. As part of the same rationalisation exercise, other express bus services introduced in 2018 had their operating hours reduced.

Clementi to Hougang (original of service 147) is direction 2, so that’s why clementi to Clarke quey for 147e is d2.
