Bus Service 160M served residential estates in Bukit Batok West, providing a direct connection to & from the Jurong East transport node, along with shopping malls and other amenities around Jurong Gateway Road. It is a supplementary route of Bus Service 160.

The route complements existing bus connections which have been introduced or amended to serve new BTO residential developments in Bukit Batok West, starting with Bus Service 944 in August 2017, followed by Service 941 and 991 in July 2018.

The new bus service was first announced by Member of Parliament (MP) Amy Khor on Facebook in April 2020 as “a direct bus service that will grant you [Hong Kah North residents] greater access to Jurong East Interchange from Bukit Batok West.”

During a political broadcast on 4 July 2020 during the lead-up to the 2020 Singapore General Election, Amy Khor announced that the new bus service will commence on 26 July 2020. That same day, letters (dated 29 June 2020) were sent to residents from Hong Kah North Citizens’ Consultative Committee which enclosed route details for Bus Service 160M [Link to scanned poster]. The route poster was released by SBS Transit on 13 July 2020.

Bearing the ‘M’ suffix, Bus Service 160M is classified as a supplementary route of Bus Service 160, which plies between Jurong East and JB Sentral via Bukit Batok Road, and does not enter the Bukit Batok West estate. Both 160 and 160M duplicate each other between Jurong East Int and Bukit Batok Road (Bef PIE / Aft PIE).

Service 160M was renumbered to Trunk Bus Service 993 with the extension of its route along Bukit Batok West Ave 8 and Bukit Batok Rd on 24 September 2023.

I feel like they could have made it a standalone route, and plied JE Ave 1 instead of Boon Lay Way to supplement 98 – oh well.

The number would be “928”, or “337” (running from Jurong East to Bukit Batok West).

Not possible, 160M is good as it’s more resourceful from 160. And speaking about 337, CANNOT. Jurong East = Jurong West, still can can, but 337 crossing to Bukit Batok is a NO.

Think the duty mixed with service 160..Maybe 160M standalone duties is just 4 buses so MAN A22 can be deployed.

Wish they had used a different numbering for 160M such as 44, 164, 992 etc instead of overusing the ‘M’ suffix for new services. Good route anyway, hopefully 160M can utilize a few DDs.

Dude,If LTA decide to use those numbers then the service would be under Bulim package that is Tower Transit

It can be added to Bulim package but operated by SBST under negotiated contract like SMRT 944/991. Buses can still park at UPDEP under nego contract. Makes more sense than subsuming 160M under Bukit Merah package imo. But given that the 2nd term winner for Bulim contract is going to be announced in a few months, LTA probably felt that it’s no use incorporating it in Bulim when the operator will likely switch in only a few months, that was probably why it was given to BM as a supplementary route instead.
