Bus Service 3 was introduced in 2002 from the merger of Feeder 294 and Townlink 357, plying between Tampines and Pasir Ris before being extended to Punggol in 2003. It is a residential trunk route serving the regional centres of Punggol, Pasir Ris and Tampines estates, and incorporating a short express sector along the Tampines Expressway (TPE) between Pasir Ris and Punggol.

As remnants of its Feeder past, Service 3 continues to be the sole service running through Tampines St 21, Pasir Ris St 21 and Pasir Ris St 71, linking these neighbourhoods with Tampines Regional Centre or Pasir Ris Town Centre. Its generous operating hours are also a result of its former Feeder status.

Due to the lack of alternative routes along Tampines St 21, Pasir Ris St 21 and Pasir Ris St 71, this route partially takes up the role of connecting commuters to the town centre in Pasir Ris New Town and regional centre in Tampines New Town. It also complements the passenger demands of Service 83 within Punggol New Town. Between Pasir Ris Dr 12 and Punggol Rd, this route uses the Tampines Expressway (TPE) to connect to and from Pasir Ris and Punggol.

This service also plies different routing towards Punggol & Tampines around Tampines Street 21 and 23.

Double-deck buses were deployed on this route from 7 Sep 2015 to cater to increasing capacity on this popular route.

Why not deploy more double decker buses on this service & increase the frequency of this service to solve issues of overcrowding?

There is a possible reason why. Most likely, the curve road in Pasir Ris (connecting street 41 and Loyang point) being very narrow is the possible reason. I want GO ahead Singapore to stop deploying double deckers on this service permanently. All-time Single decker buses for this service is perfect!

How can people stop overcrowding when this service is on high demand? You expect people to use an inconvenient route just to make you happy? Also there are narrow roads that double deckers and even 3 door buses use to turn and even loop (eg. Canberra St)

There are plenty of narrow roads (eg. Admiralty Link, Canberra St) that DD and even DD 3-door buses ply. As 3 is a high demand and important svc, DDs should be able to ferry the demand during the peak. The overcrowding issue is because of the high demand, so DD buses and an increased frequency is optimal. Please pen your opinions and email the LTA, and not here.
