Service 684 offers residents of Brickland and Bukit Batok West improved connectivity to the Central Business District via the AYE, providing a direct travel alternative to commuters who typically rely on the rail network and feeder buses.
Early Plans
Plans for this service were first mentioned by Acting Transport Minister Mr Jeffrey Siow on 8 June 2025, as a City Direct service from Brickland, to be launched by the end of 2026.
In an update on the BCEP released by the Land Transport Authority in February 2026, the service number was confirmed as 684, and was scheduled to be introduced ‘in the coming months’. The update included Bukit Batok West as a catchment area for the service. The route was officially announced on 7 May 2026.

684 does indeed intrude into CCK, based on the bus stops shown in the Instagram Post by “Jeff”
The rough routing in the west outlined in his post is Keat Hong Close -> Brickland Rd -> BBT Rd -> BBT West Ave 8
Saw SMRT training buses along Somerset Road today, could be nothing could be 684 routing? If it does end up following the 68x routing anyway, would be real inconvenient for those working in Shenton Way, and also just strange given that 674 doesn’t follow routing of most of the other 67x to suntec
Correction:686:Choa chu kang Crescent-Bishan interchange to Lorong Halus
They Could renumber 991,991A,991B And 451 to 684,684A,684B and 684M respectively, And Probably introduce 685 and 686 to operate like: 685:Ang Mo Kio
Avenue 3-Choa Chu kang North 7 bi-directionally and 686:Choa chu kang Crescent-Bishan Interchange bi-directionally and That’s all; Bye!😘
What talking you? 6## series is only meant for City Direct. How can you allow a normal trunk bus service renumbered to 6## series??
Interesting, another “Brickland” service, with the area being mentioned vaguely. Presumably it’s the same “Brickland” that 984 serves, intruding into CCK instead of actually serving Tengah.
Bukit Batok West here might refer to the area around where the 99x services are routed. A blessing, since that area has a severe lack of connectivity to anywhere else but nearby MRT nodes.
By the looks of it 684 could be operated by SMRT given it’s proximity to both CCK Int & GBDEP. Entirely possible to interline from another SMRT service too. However… if LTA were to futureproof, 684 may as well end up under TTS since it’s targeted at Tengah, has it’s start/end point being quite close to Tengah Central, and is also nearby to the future TGDEP which is operated under Bulim Package.
