The route is an extension of Bus Service 160M along Bukit Batok West Ave 8 and Bukit Batok Road, serving the new housing estate of West Scape @ Bukit Batok additionally. Bus Service 160M will be renumbered to Service 993 on 24 September 2023.
Service 993 will serve a new bus stop (43799 – Blk 432A) along Bukit Batok West Ave 8 in the future.

i think Service 993 should be reroute like 98 (exclude route to Boon Lay Way) to Jurong East Ave 1 and Jurong East Central on both route before turning to Jurong Town Hall Rd towards Bukit Batok Rd for easier access. and not to duplicate 160.
