History

On 24 November 2014, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced an expansion of Sengkang Bus Interchange to accommodate new bus services being introduced under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP), as the existing interchange did not have enough capacity to accommodate new bus services.

Covering 8,100 square metres, this new annexe would be located directly opposite the existing Sengkang Interchange, and would feature 12 parking bays, boarding and alighting facilities, concourse area, staff lounge, and a canteen. In contrast, Sengkang Bus Interchange had just 16 bus parking lots.

The construction tender (Contract RD285 – Expansion of Sengkang Bus Interchange) was awarded to W’ray Construction Pte Ltd for a fee of SGD 7,686,223.00. Originally planned to be operational by Q3 2015, construction only started in January 2016, and the interchange was completed in late 2016.

The new facility was called Compassvale Bus Interchange and was opened on 12 March 2017.

Compassvale Bus Interchange closed on 1 December 2024, in tandem with the opening of Buangkok Bus Interchange. The NTWU Canteen remained open to serve diners for several weeks afterwards, as the canteen at Sengkang Bus Interchange was still undergoing renovation works.

The interchange would be reopened from 31 January 2026 till end-October 2026, to facilitate the upgrading of Sengkang Bus Interchange.

Demolition

The facility is set to be demolished under Contract BD203 – Infrastructure Demolition Works, published for tender by the Land Transport Authority in June 2025. In December 2025, the contract was awarded to Yongsheng E & C Pte Ltd at a value of $1,988,000.00.

Interchange Layout

The interchange site was bordered by Compassvale Road, Sengkang East Way and Sengkang Square. Notably, this was adjacent to the old Sengkang Temporary Bus Interchange, which was demolished after the opening of Sengkang Bus Interchange in 2003.

The interchange featured a single alighting berth and 2 boarding berths with queue lines. Facilities at the interchange concourse include offices, a driver’s lounge, toilets, a canteen, and other ancillary rooms. The bus park contains 12 bus parking lots, along with motorcycle parking for staff.

The interchange was connected to Sengkang Bus Interchange and Sengkang MRT/LRT Station via an overhead bridge and pedestrian crossing across Sengkang Square.

Vehicles enter/exit Compassvale Bus Interchange via a left-in/left-out intersection with Compassvale Road (northbound). Another vehicle exit leads to Sengkang Square (southbound).

Bus Service History

Compassvale Bus Interchange commenced operations on 12 March 2017 with the introduction of Bus Service 374 (Compassvale ↺ Fernvale Road (Loop)). The second route, Bus Service 110 (Compassvale ↺ Changi Airport (Loop)), was introduced on 22 October 2017. The Sengkang LRT Rail Bridging Service stop was also moved to Compassvale from Sengkang Int.

With the closure of the interchange, Service 110 was amended to Buangkok Bus Interchange, while Service 374 was amended to Sengkang Bus Interchange.

Five bus services – Service 80, 86, 87, 372, and 374 – would be temporarily relocated from Sengkang Int to Compassvale Int during the temporary reopening period to facilitate the upgrading of Sengkang Bus Interchange.

service 176 could extend here to Compassvale INT and amend to Jurong TOwn Hall INT passing via TPE/SLE, Sembawang Road, Mandai, Woodlands Road, Bt Panjang MRT, Hillview, Bukit Batok & Jurong East

176’s Extension to sengkang is to connect a direct link for Sengkang residents to get to Bukit Panjang & Mandai Areas

Lost sectors to be replaced by service 51
