3-Door Enviro500 on road tests in Zhuhai

Published: 10 March 2021. Last update: 23 March 2021.

The 3-Door Alexander Dennis Enviro500 bus has been spotted undergoing road tests in Zhuhai.

In a recent video contributed to Land Transport Guru, the lush green 3-Door bus could be seen roaming the coastal roads west of Zhuhai Jinwan Airport (机场西路), a short distance away from ADL’s assembly facility.

The exterior features of the bus are very similar to the original artist impressions, featuring windowed staircases on the offside, and a single-leaf 3rd door on the nearside.

The 3-door Enviro500 is powered by the Mercedes-Benz OM936 (Euro 6-compliant) engine. The bodywork styling is a facelifted design first introduced in 2015 and featured on the 3-door concept bus exhibited in 2016—but was not opted for in earlier production batch Enviro500 orders in Singapore.

Contrary to external appearances, the second staircase is not a forward-facing staircase, but a half-turn staircase at the tail end of the bus, similar in layout to the 3-door concept bus.

These are also the first Enviro500 3-door buses to be specifically designed for the right-hand-drive market. Under Contract PT342 (Procurement of 3-Door Euro 6 Double Deck Diesel Buses), Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) will deliver 50 units to Singapore, with units likely to enter service this year (2021).

In-depth coverage of the bus model can be found within the dedicated bus model article: Alexander Dennis Enviro500 (3 Door).

Assembly in Zhuhai

All Enviro500 buses in Singapore (except for SMB5001A) are assembled in Zhuhai (Guangdong Province, China), where ADL buses are manufactured for the Asia-Pacific market.

The bus features a full-flat floor design along with three passenger doors and two staircases, one at the front and one at the rear of the vehicle, allowing commuters to move through the vehicle quickly and safely. It will also use the latest aluminium composite body technology and a host of new safety and energy-saving features.

Shipping

Buses were prepared for shipment at the Zhuhai assembly plant in late March 2021, as seen in videos uploaded to Douyin.

You have to look at the amount of horsepowers too…

@Useyourbrain No, because the Cummins engine has 340 horsepowers while this one has 354 horsepowers. It should be about the same or even a bit faster.

Bro,I ride motorcycles from small to big cc,drive car from bread and butter to turbocharged one, drive heavy vehicles even buses..Cummins L9 is 8.9L 340hp/1500nm and the OM936 is only 7.7L 350hp/1400nm..Acceleration is slightly slower than cummins although if there is no speed limit, the OM can catch up with Cummins.Furthermore its using Voith which has a throttle by wire delay after 1st gear..Hp mostly for top speed while torque is for low/mid end.Do your research. That’s why the Batch 1 MAN buses acceleration is way superb until LTA decide to restrict the torque for the subsequent batches

Although I don’t see any torque difference inside the specifications between Batch 1 and subsequent ones.

You will understand what i meant later
            Current E500 using 8900cc 340hp/1500rpm
The OM936 7700cc 350hp/1400nm but at higher rpm so if lta reduce the low end rpm it will be useless..With smaller cc engine.

What SG buses are getting is much lower than the spec itself

MAN 320hp@1600rpm/1600nm@1200rpm and 1st/2nd gear restrict cannot go more than 1200rpm so calculate yourself,That’s why public buses in SG are too slow even for low end compared to other countries

This design looks so much better than the earlier batches of Enviro500s.

Hopefully the Euro 06 ADLE500MMC (Batch 03, 3Doors) will be registered from SG6333M onwards to SG6382X by following the SBST Euro 04 Scania K230UB (Batch 02) buses of.

I do think they did a well job in keeping it low floor, but the concept or even the 5001 batch design is way better than the 3 door production one, especially in the back part where they balcked out everything to the license and the concept did not, also with the fake staircase window thing that is forward facing, I’m okay with it but it’s a disappointment that only 25 percent of the stair window is a real window
