Bukit Panjang MRT/LRT Station (BP6-DT1) is the western terminus of the Downtown Line (DTL), as well as an interchange station with the Bukit Panjang LRT (BPLRT). Located near the Bukit Panjang town centre, the DTL station is built underground, underneath Upper Bukit Timah Road, while the BPLRT station is overground, next to Petir Road.
Bukit Panjang means “long hill” in Malay, which gets its name from the range of hills stretching from Mandai to the north to Bukit Timah to the south. The station serves the Bukit Panjang housing estate, along with residential developments and shopping malls in the vicinity of Bukit Panjang Town Centre.
The two lines are connected by an unpaid link owing to construction limitations. Commuters transferring between lines would have to tap out of the network, walk along a public linkway and re-enter the network, with a transfer window of 15 minutes.

Concourse
Both BPLRT and DTL concourses feature faregates for automatic fare collection and provides access between paid and unpaid areas of the station, with at least one bidirectional wide-swinging gate for the benefit of passengers-in-wheelchairs and those carrying bulky items or travelling with prams.
The BPLRT Mezzanine concourse links both platforms to an overhead bridge connecting to the DTL station (Level 2). With no paid link, commuters must tap out and then tap in again when transferring lines, with a transfer window of 15 minutes. Commuters who take longer than 15 minutes will have their connecting rail journey considered as a new ride.
Art in Transit: “Punctum of the Long Hills” by John Clang
Placed in the DTL concourse, “Punctum of the Long Hills” showcases giant piggybacking Kampong boys peeking beyond HDB flats, a reference to Bukit Panjang which means “long hills” in Malay. The curiosity displayed encourages citizens to be adventurous, taking risks in exploring or identities and seeking out better opportunities.
Civil Defence shelter
Bukit Panjang DTL station is one of six stations along the Downtown Line 2 designated as Civil Defence (CD) shelters, which will be activated in times of national emergency. Apart from reinforced construction, the stations are designed and equipped with facilities to ensure the shelter environment is tolerable for all shelterees during shelter occupation. These facilities include protective blast doors, decontamination facilities, ventilation systems, power and water supply systems and a dry toilet system.

Passenger Usage Patterns
As an interchange station in the heart of Bukit Panjang town, Bukit Panjang MRT/LRT station is well-utilized by commuters living in the area, or heading to various amenities in the vicinity such as Bukit Panjang Bus Interchange, Hillion Mall and Residences, Bukit Panjang Plaza, Bukit Panjang Public Library, Sri Murugan Hill Tp, Econ Medicare Centre and Junction 10. This station also serves plenty of transfer commuters between both rail lines, as the Downtown Line connects to the City Centre and other parts of the island, while the Bukit Panjang LRT provides the final connection to within walking distance of most of the estate’s residential apartments.
Owing to good bus connections in the vicinity, many bus routes also serve between Bukit Panjang and other stations down the line. Between Bukit Panjang and the City, several BKE-PIE express bus services offer comparable travel times (if not faster) than the Downtown Line.
Construction Trivia
Contract 912 for the Downtown Line Stage 2 (DTL2) for the design and construction at Bukit Panjang station and its associated tunnels was awarded to Lum Chang Building Contractors Pte Ltd at approximately S$452.4 million. The working name for this station was Petir station.
Future Developments
As part of the Land Transport Master Plan 2040, the Downtown Line Stage 2 extension would extend the Downtown line further to Sungei Kadut.

Bruh why isn’t the LRT line like any other ones. The station code names are supposed to be like this: (BPTC/DT1) Bukit Panjang, (BP1) Petir, (BP2) Pending, (BP3) Bangkit, (BP4) Fajar, (BP5) Segar, (BP6) Jelapang, (BP7) Senja. From Petir to Senja is the loop stations. (BP8) Phoenix, (BP9) Teck Whye, (BP10) Keat Hong, (BP11) South View, (BP12/NS4/JS1) Choa Chu Kang. Phoenix to Choa Chu Kang is the non-loop stations. Some more the Jurong Region Line in Choa Chu Kang have the same code number with the LRT.
The MRT Station’s exit C will open on 10 Feb 2018.
Hi Sally, the drop-off point for Exit A should be just before the Bus Stop, but it is still not opened due to construction work for Exit C.
Where is the drop-off point for Bt Panjang MRT station? It’s no where to be found. Post photo please! Other stations like Cashew and Hillview have huge allocated dropoff/pick-up points. But none is to be found at Bt Panjang station which has a huge passenger volume!
From what I know, the drop off point/taxi stand is after the bus stop (Exit B) of the Downtown Line.
