Brief History:
- 1985: Bishan Bus Terminal set up
- 1989: Bishan Bus Interchange built
The building of Bishan Bus Interchange was first planned to support the development of Bishan as a new town. Only one bus service, Service 56, connected between Toa Payoh and Bishan Street 13. In December 1985, a temporary bus terminal (Bishan Bus Terminal) was set up near Blk 510 to cater for Service 56 as well as new bus services.
On Sunday, 30th April 1989, the new interchange became operational, and linked to the Bishan MRT Station opened two years before, giving commuters greater convenience for Bus-MRT transfers. It was built in a unique square design with the covered interchange concourse surrounding the open-air bus park.

Where is service guide rack for 57
Qualifications for Bishan ITH:
– Linked with MRT: ✅
– Linked with Shopping Mall: ✅
– Linked with Housing: ❌ (unless CP is moved and Housing is built on TOP of interchange, likely causing inconvenience for 5 years or so )
– Air-Conditioned: ❌
So the only way Bishan can become ITH is to rebuild it at the open field next to Junction 8, with a new condo on top and link to Circle Line entrance.
Also if Bishan was closed, Bishan would lose its only bus interchange. Most services will have to terminate at Ang Mo Kio or Toa Payoh, making some services inconvenient.
Take 53, which would be made horribly Long if amended to Toa Payoh, but unnecessary if amended to AMK (already got 24 there). Bishan residents will lose their easy City Bus services (56, 57, and 58/59). Don’t even get started on the feeders 410G/W
I would want Bishan to become an ITH integrated with an condo called Bishan8 (A new mall & condo next to Junction 8).
Wished parking lots & boarding berths
14 end-on parking lots (3 spare berths) with three svcs having 3 end-on lots and the rest having 2 end-on lots
I noticed that some ppl want this closed, some want to turn it to ITH.
In my opinion, I feel that the space required for an ITH to be built at Bishan is not sufficient if not considering the empty space beside Junction 8 (though I think it would be great if Bishan was ITH)
