The route plies express along Jurong Town Hall Road and the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE), providing a direct alternative to commuters who typically rely on the rail network and feeder buses.
As a City Direct service, it operates only on weekdays (except Public Holidays), with unidirectional City-bound trips in the mornings, and return trips towards the heartlands in the evenings.
The route was launched on 15 June 2026, as a renumbering of Express Bus Service 982E, which was discontinued on the same day. The renumbering saw a third morning trip added, and the addition of two pairs of bus stops along Bukit Batok Road (previously an express sector for Service 982E), benefitting nearby residents of Bukit Batok West and Tengah estates.
If the eve of Christmas, New Year’s Day, and Chinese New Year fall on a weekday, evening peak departures will be brought forward to the afternoon. Revised departure times will be provided by the operator closer to the affected date.
