Upcoming Bus Service 968

Service 968 is an upcoming bus service operating from Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange to support the opening of the RTS Link Woodlands North station.

This service will be introduced under the LTA’s Bus Connectivity Enhancement Programme (BCEP), a ~$900 million government scheme that funds the purchase of new buses, infrastructural improvements, and operating costs of new bus services between 2024–2032.

Details for the service were announced as part of the BCEP update by LTA in September 2026.

Route Details

Operating from Woodlands Temp Int, Service 968 connects residents to Woodlands North, Woodlands South, and Admiralty MRT stations.

Where on earth 873 and 968 will get buses since 874 will lease the storage buses?

GBDEP should still have excess Diesel SD Buses that can transfer seeing how they have been transferring A22s out to other operators. Can transfer some over to WLDEP for 968. GBDEP can take some of the new EV buses when they arrive if they want. Majority would likely be for ECDEP GAS & SMRT KCDEP though.

GB lease those buses that are under SMRT to SBST, GAS and TTS. I’m sure they still need to keep some diesel buses especially for 975.

Extend the KUB Euro IV and OC500LE two more years LOL… in all seriousness, it might actually happen given that the new electrics ordered haven’t had any sign of showing up yet, and the fact that GAS are about to retire several of their KUBs. GAS fleet at Tampines already so overstretched, can you imagine what would happen if the KUBs were retired without replacement? It would make more sense to keep the KUB Euro IV for another year until the new electrics can start entering service in large numbers. It’s also best to retain some of them for at least a year as a stopgap measure, in case the electrics have teething issues. Many of the remaining Euro IVs, especially the batch 1s, seem to also be in decent condition.

LTA want to get rid of the E4 buses first follow by OC. I’m sure if those 660 buses distribute to Gali Batu, Sengkang West, Kim Chuan, Tengah, East Coast, Seletar and Loyang only then these depots will transfer out some diesel buses to non EV depot like Woodlands, Soon Lee, Ulu Pandan, Bukit Batok, Bedok North

967 already example and yet this… I would prefer if 967 get an extension out of Woodlands and 968 to ply Senoko and then loop at Sembawang relieving 856 and 169 loadings at least

What is the operational rationale for introducing this bus service when the Thomson–East Coast Line already provides rail connectivity in the area, with Woodlands and Woodlands North stations situated in close proximity to one another?

I had instead anticipated that Service 950 might cease operating to Johor Bahru following the opening of the RTS Link.

Could this new service therefore be intended to replace Service 950, with Service 950 subsequently being withdrawn altogether once the RTS Link commences operations?

950 should merge with 110 and extend to CGA via SK town.

I don’t think 950 would be terminate as buses is still needed.. RTS is only 3 car carriage trains.

Impossible. Demand for CBS 160,170,170X,950 is extremely high even at 4.50am. RTS does not start operation until 6am. Commuters will have to rely on CBS to commute across the border when RTS is not in operation. Don’t get me started on the fact that RTS was downgraded from a regular MRT to a LRT system and it has a limited capacity, especially during peak hours. And during weekday off peak periods, CBS 160,170X and 950 actually ply a longer route to JB Sentral Ter, which incurs additional runtime. Hence, I don’t think there will be any short term nor long term changes. Even if frequency were to be adjusted, route adjusted (such as bus 170 potentially shortening to Beauty World Ter), full complete withdrawal is not likely possible. In fact, commuters currently taking Service 856/911 might switch to Service 950 if the queue is shorter due to RTS link.

170 could start from Marina Centre to JB Sentral, 170X renumbered as 170M from Gali Batu Ter to Larkin Ter. 950 can extend to Larkin

TEL don’t call at your doorstep. The bus is to connect residents to the nearest train station, and i guess they’re hoping to take some of the JB crowd away from Marsiling/Woodlands when the RTS opens.

Why not serve Senoko too can relieved 856 loadings to and from WNMRT.

856B exists for that reason, frequency of 856B can be increased to meet that demand. In fact, by having supplementary service, LTA could get the same operator (tower transit) to more efficiently plan the timetables of both 856 and 856B. But having different services, tower transit is technically not required to maximise efficiency, since both are technically not the same service route, so bus bunching might happen.
