The CRRC CSR6120GLEVD2 (eD12) is a battery-electric double-deck city bus offered by CRRC Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd. (中车电动). In Singapore, a 3-door 2-staircase version of this bus was co-developed by CRRC and ST Engineering, with bodywork construction by Gemilang Coachworks.

The bus was first spotted in Singapore in October 2024. Delivered in a Lush Green livery, this bus was previously exhibited at SITCE 2024. In July 2025, it was registered as SG4015U and offered to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) for revenue service trials.

A 6-month revenue service trial commenced on 16 October 2025. Operated by Go-Ahead, it is regularly deployed on Bus Service 118 & 118A.

In line with LTA’s ongoing efforts to rapidly electrify the public bus fleet, half of all public buses will be electric by 2030. Detailed coverage of this rollout can be found at Electric Buses in Singapore.


Manufacturer Background

CRRC Electric is an electric bus manufacturer in China, best known for its association with the CRRC conglomerate that builds rail vehicles. Between Jan–Aug 2023, it was the sixth-largest manufacturer in the Chinese new energy bus market by sales volume, with 1,519 buses sold. Apart from selling whole buses, CRRC Electric also sells electric drives and control electronics for electric buses, marketed as “T power”(T动力).

Outside of its domestic market, CRRC Electric has seen volume orders in New Zealand, Saudi Arabia and South Korea, with limited trials of its buses in France, Hungary, Belarus and Malaysia.

Double-deck buses

CRRC previously supplied electric 2-axle double-deck chassis to New Zealand. In 2018, an initial fleet of 10 electric buses was launched, followed by 31 more from 2021. All these buses were built by local coachbuilder Kiwi Bus Builders and began service in Wellington.

In March 2024, a prototype three-axle double-deck (CRRC eD12 MAX) entered passenger service in Auckland, bodied by Gemilang Coachworks. In October 2024, Tranzit Group unveiled a similar Gemilang-bodied CRRC eD12 MAX as part of a fleet of 26 units acquired for service in Waikato and Auckland. These buses are equipped with 508 kWh CATL batteries and have a capacity of 80 seated and 20 standing passengers.


SITCE 2024

The CRRC eD12 bus, designed for the Singapore market, was showcased by ST Engineering at the LTA-UITP Singapore International Transport Congress & Exhibition (SITCE) in November 2024.

ST Engineering, via its ST Engineering Mobility Services (STEMoS) business unit, is a systems integrator and distributor for several models of buses in Singapore, such as MAN and CRRC. In collaboration with Malaysian bodybuilder Gemilang Coachworks, they have delivered electric bus models such as the Linkker LM312, MAN Lion’s City E, and also converted a diesel MAN A22 into an electric bus.

The display CRRC eD12 bus at SITCE 2024 featured a Lush Green vinyl wrap promoting AGIL Drivesafe+, an Advanced Driver Assistance System offered by ST Engineering. The upper deck was modified with tables and facing seats for the trade show.

Revenue Service Trial

On 28 July 2025, the bus was registered as SG4015U to Go-Ahead Singapore, with chassis number LNE4CA3M7P0000056.

On 16 October 2025, the bus made its revenue service debut on Service 118 & 118A. According to Go-Ahead Singapore, the trial would last for 6 months.

Layout

The CRRC eD12 is a full-low-floor double-deck bus with three doors and two staircases. The full-low-floor layout is ideal for passenger movement, as the rear staircase leads directly to the third door, which encourages upper-deck passengers to exit from the rear door.

LTA’s preference for three-door buses is evidenced by LTA’s previous 100 double-deck bus order in 2019, which mandated a three-door two-staircase layout, with the rearmost exit door situated behind the rear axle. More recently, the 420 single-deck electric bus order in 2023 and the subsequent 660 electric bus order in 2025 also required a three-door layout.

Interiors – Lower Deck

The lower deck of the bus includes 12 seats, 2 wheelchair bays (each with a foldable seat) and standing space for up to 55 passengers. The design features a fully low-floor aisle from the entrance to the rear third door, enhancing accessibility.

Passenger seats are supplied by Kiel (model: Kiel Citos) and come upholstered in grey-blue or maroon seat covers. Stanchion poles are turquoise, a colour scheme similar to that of Volvo B5LH buses, with bell attachment areas coated in yellow to aid with visual identification.

The first row of seats after the middle door are designated as priority seats.

Towards the rear of the lower deck and above the rear axle, traction batteries take up most of the space here, with no seats in this area.

Staircases

The bus is equipped with 2 staircases: the front staircase is located behind the driver’s cab, and the second is positioned at the rear, providing direct access to the third door.

This layout allows passengers to quickly exit from the upper deck, making alighting more convenient and efficient. Most passengers on the lower deck typically exit through the middle door.

Upper Deck

The upper deck seats 51 passengers in a conventional 2+2 layout.

The rearmost two rows of seats are elevated by 1 step.

Wheelchair Bays

The bus features two wheelchair bays: one behind the front left wheel well, and the other located opposite the middle door. They each accommodate one passenger-in-wheelchair (PIW), and are also equipped with USB charging ports, a foldable seat and a stowable armrest. A stroller restraint system is installed at the forward wheelchair bay.

The bus is fitted with an automatic wheelchair boarding ramp at the middle door (model: Masats RE2b). Both the middle door and ramp are fitted with red and green light strips to indicate the status of the door (model: Masats PIS-L).

Passenger Information Display System

The bus is equipped with a PIDS in the standard LTA configuration, with exterior and interior LCD screens and interior LED panels.

  1. LCD Display Panel (x2) — Lower & Upper Deck
    Shows the bus service number, destination, current time, next bus stop, and up to 3 subsequent bus stops, along with rail connections at these bus stops.
  2. LCD Display Panel — Exterior-facing, beside entrance door
    Shows the next few MRT/LRT stations served, and the number of bus stops to that MRT/LRT station.
  3. Orange LED Display (x2) — Lower & Upper Deck
    Shows the bus service number, destination, and next bus stop.
Driver Cabin

The driver’s cabin is fitted with the AGIL DriveSafe+ Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), which includes forward and side blind spot monitoring, collision detection, and lane departure warnings. An Anti-Fatigue System is also included.

Additionally, the bus uses a camera-based mirror system instead of traditional wing mirrors. Two vertical CCTV monitors replicate the view of wing mirrors, while a third overhead monitor provides an overhead view of the front and front-left blind spots.

Roof Solar Panels

The bus is equipped with rooftop solar panels. According to ST Engineering, the solar panels can recover up to 4 kW of energy, reducing overall power consumption.

    Can add more 100% Electric buses?? Why are there still so many scania k230ub in sg?? Then still add 2 more year lifespan? Oh my god.

      Not enough buses for now especially with BCEP. Hence K230UBs stay back to support expansion.

    Don’t understand why Gemilang love to place the third door nearer to the third axles stripe leaving only a finger gap just like the A95 3-doors.

      I think for this bus its because of the battery thats right next to the 3rd door so if they move it more back the 3rd door would be smaller. And for the man a95 3 door, the door must be closer to the 3rd wheel due to the slope of the overhang (even though its this sloped the overhang always almost scrape the road in a bump

    Singapore is like the only city outside China that is mass purchasing electric buses and mass deploying them on public bus routes so far.

    And probably the only city in the world that will be mass purchasing electric double decker buses and mass deploying them on public bus routes so far.
