Demolition Planned for Two Former Bus Interchanges

Two former bus interchanges are set to be demolished in the near term, as published in a tender posted by the Land Transport Authority today (20 Jun 2025) – BD203 – Infrastructure Demolition Works. Yishun Temporary Bus Interchange and Compassvale Bus Interchange will be torn down in this contract.

The former served the bustling town centre of Yishun from 2015 to 2019 during the redevelopment of the original interchange into the current integrated retail, housing and transport hub. After operations shifted to the new facility, the temporary interchanged continued to served as auxiliary parking capacity up to 2021, relieving space constraints for the new interchange due to transition woes, and for the overnight parking of buses. The interchange concourse also used for other purposes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Comapssvale Bus Interchange served as a temporary expansion of Sengkang Bus Interchange from 2017 to 2024. It was introduced under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP) as the existing interchange lacked capacity to accommodate new bus services. It served two bus services – 110 and 374, and later as a layover location for bus 114. It was also utilized as a parking location for split-shift bus services. The closure of the interchange on 1 December 2024 was in tandem with the opening of Buangkok Bus Interchange.

It is not known what will stand on these former transport sites yet. The URA Masterplan indicates that land plots are reserve sites with no confirmed development plans disclosed.

These locations are based on the site briefing for the tender on the government procurement portal GeBIZ, in which the addresses for both Yishun Temporary Bus Interchange and Compassvale Bus Interchange were listed.

Honestly looking at the state of YITH right now, it looks like it could use more space, and Chencharu BI isn’t entering the scene so soon. I would have thought they would use YTBI as parking support
Compassvale is comparatively a worse decision, as buses actually do use CPV BI to park when Sengkang (the horror show) is full. Without Compassvale, if Sengkang BI ends up cramming again, and I’m telling you it does so often, seeing as literally all of its services are in high demand and frequency, good luck…

It would have been better to repurpose them for other uses, YITH was used as a vaccination centre for some time during COVID & post-pandemic. They could even be used for private shuttles & coaches to park instead of taking up space by the roadside or YITH/SKITH (looking at you AC7 you useless frick).

851 and 852 cannot be shortened to YCK due to the following reasons:

    1. 851 and 852 unique sectors between YITH and Marymount (either you keep one to YITH or don’t move at all)
    2. Pretty sure YCK parking lot is full due to high demand on service 72 and 72B.
    3. If you seriously want to cut, 851 should most likely stay at YITH, while 852 should end at most at Chencharu ITH, although there have been rumours about getting withdrawn due to duplication of existing services.

Since they are planning to demolish YTBI, which many of us did not expect due to high demand in YITH, I will not be surprised if they are going to demolish WTBI before Woodlands North ITH is built. Pretty sure there will be some bus service getting cut to end at Gali Batu if that is the case. I feel that at least one of these services will be at risk of getting cut to Gali Batu, like 187, 960, 963 and 966 that serve between Woodlands and BP to make space for 925, 950, 961/M and 961.

Best is to extend 852 to Sembawang.Transfer into Sembawang-Yishun package and both Mandai and Bulim can share the fleets.

I also agree that these locations should not be outright demolished but repurposed for other services, like for use of private buses as a drop-off/pick up point for their shuttle services. Eg, work buses, private condo shuttles, other shopping shuttle buses like IKEA. Then these buses will not take up road or bus stop spaces that would otherwise disrupt the traffic flow. Also, give people a proper place to wait for the above mentioned services. And at the same time, small businesses can still use the retail areas within the property.
