Owing to Tower Transit Singapore‘s active public engagement efforts, the Bulim Bus Package operator makes frequent use of the Electronic Display Signages (EDS) onboard its buses to display special messages. Often cycling through normal route details in the form of static scrolls, additional scrolls can be added with special information during various special occasions.
This article compiles the Special Destination Signs by Tower Transit to celebrate various occasions throughout the year.
The EDS Unit
Electronic Display Signages (EDS) of various types are installed across all new transit buses.
- Alexander Dennis Enviro500:Â Mobitec MobiLED
- MAN NL323F:Â Mobitec MobiLED
- Mercedes-Benz Citaro:Â LAWO HIGHLED
- Volvo B9TL: LECIP and Hanover
Among these buses, the Mercedes-Benz Citaro is a popular recipient of special EDS displays as its high-density LAWO HIGHLED display allows for more complicated designs to be programmed in.
Valentine’s Day
In a first for local Public Transport Operator in recent history, Tower Transit programmed additional scrolls onboard selected Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses in commemoration of Valentine’s Day.
The Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses displayed the service number alongside the rest of the special display. When buses were set to Off Service, a full-length Valentine’s Day message is displayed instead.
In addition, Tower Transit Bus Captains were featured in a The New Paper article on married couples working with the company.
Chinese New Year
During the Chinese New Year period, selected MAN NL323F buses displayed a celebratory message (ćĺĺč´˘).
National Day
In the days leading up to National Day 2016, special scrolls were programmed onboard most MAN NL323F and Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses.
While the MAN NL323F buses had just a single standardized scroll at the front of the bus, the Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses displayed the service number alongside the rest of the special display. When buses were set to Off Service, the Singapore Flag takes the place of the service number.

Formula 1 Diversions
During the Formula 1 Diversion period affecting most services in the City, Bulim Bus Package operator Tower Transit took the extra effort to incorporate diversion details into the Electronic Display Signage (EDS) units of buses, hence keeping commuters better informed about the changes in route.
Buses operating on Tower Transit Services 77, 97, 97e and 106 were programmed with the modified route details. However, a small proportion of buses were running with their original EDS displays.
Service 77:
Originally terminating at Marina Centre, city-bound trips of Service 77 were truncated at Bras Basah Road. Buses would loop at North Bridge Road, then resuming its original routing along Stamford Road towards Bukit Batok.
During the diversion period, Service 77 buses were programmed with Stamford Road as the terminating point rather than Marina Centre. An additional scroll informs commuters about the F1 Diversions at Marina Centre.
Service 97:
Originally terminating at Marina Centre, city-bound trips of Service 97 were truncated at Robinson Road. Buses would loop at Finlayson Green, then resuming its original routing along Raffles Quay towards Jurong East.
During the diversion period, Service 97 buses were programmed with Raffles Quay as the terminating point rather than Marina Centre. Additional scrolls informs commuters that the route would skip Marina Bay Sands and Suntec City owing to the F1 Diversions.
Service 106:
Originally serving Suntec City and Marina Bay Sands, Service 106 was amended in both directions, plying an alternative route between Bras Basah and Raffles Place. Shenton Way-bound buses would ply North Bridge Road, South Bridge Road and Church Street, while Bukit Batok-bound buses would ply Cross Street, Eu Tong Sen Street and Hill Street.
During the diversion period, Service 106 buses were programmed with additional scrolls detailing F1 Diversions at Marina Bay / Bayfront along with the amended route.

Should extend this diversion details to other diversion periods as well, not just during F1 – for events such as Car-Free Sunday, LNY/Mid-Autumn Festival and Christmas/Orchard Road Pedestrian Night, they should put an extra effort to incorporate diversion details as well.
