The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced the procurement tender for the latest batch of 660 electric buses. This move is part of Singapore’s ongoing efforts to transition to a cleaner, greener public transport system.
The tender, Procurement of Electric Buses (Contract PT602), was officially published today, 14 March 2025, and is open for submissions from eligible suppliers. This is also the first tender called for electric double-deck buses to have the three-door, two-staircase design.
The 660 buses comprise 360 single-deck buses and 300 double-deck buses.
According to LTA in a Facebook Post, this batch of electric buses will replace diesel buses that are reaching the end of their statutory lifespan.
Key Requirements for Bidders
To ensure compatibility with Singapore’s transport network, the LTA has set forth several critical criteria that potential suppliers must meet:
- Compliance with Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Construction and Use) Rules
- Right-hand drive electric buses
- A configuration with one entrance and two exits
- Low-floor bus interior
- Provision of two wheelchair bays
- Two staircases for double-deck bus options (Base Offer 2)
The LTA will adopt a 2-envelope bidding system, requiring tenderers to submit separate documents for pricing and technical specifications via the Government Procurement GeBIZ portal.
Driving Singapore Towards a Greener Future
This latest procurement follows the previous tender of 420 single-deck buses under Contract PT601 (Procurement of single deck electric buses), which also focused on expanding Singapore’s electric bus fleet.
As part of the LTA’s push to electrify Singapore’s public bus fleet, half of all public buses will be electric by 2030. To meet this target, LTA will procure more than 2,000 electric buses within the next five years, including double-deck models.
Manufacturers have also came forward with new three-door, two-staircase double-decker buses designed for the Singapore market. Three units were showcased at the LTA-UITP Singapore International Transport Congress & Exhibition (SITCE) 2024, namely the BYD BC12A05, CRRC eD12, and Zhongtong LCK6126EVGS (N12D).
Singapore’s commitment to electrifying its public transport system aligns with the nation’s broader Green Plan 2030 objectives. The adoption of electric buses is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions, noise pollution, and reliance on fossil fuels.

Once the 660 new electric buses join the fleet, the total number of battery-electric public buses will increase to 1,140. Singapore has around 5,800 public buses as of December 2024.

660 also not all double deck,Yes I agree just purchased 120 bendies for airport and some feeder svc usage only.
Hopefully ADL with 12.5m 2 staircase three doors,Volvo BZL three axles and Zhongtong DD.
SD will be Scania,MAN and MB.
These 660 new double deck electric buses under PT602 are set to replace the Volvo B9TL WEG2 Batch 1 to Batch 4.
It says 660 total buses ordered, 360 being single decks and 300 being double decks actually. The Single decks are probably ordered in preparation of the Retirement of the Euro V Scanias which begins in 2026 right after the Euro IV Scanias and the OC500LES, i would assume the current BYD BC12 & Zhongtong N12 should be enough to replace all the Euro IV Scanias & the OCs? The Double Decks which have 300 are likely just for Batch 1 & Batch 2 B9TL WEG2s which will begin retirement in 2027. Batch 3 & 4 still have some time left before they will retire so these 300 will likely just be for Batch 1 & 2. Really Hope LTA goes for other brands and not BYD or Zhongtong Again. Also personally the single decks should be 2 doors, the 3rd door kinda useless for a sd and it reduces the amount of seating as well. 3 doors should only be for dds and bendies. Another thing that is quite annoying is the recent ev buses(Zhongtong & BYD) has too many backwards facing seats.
These buses Will be starting delivery from End 2027 December Onwards.300 Double Deck Buses Should be Awarded by ST Engineering and same goes to 360 Single Deck Buses as well.The Lifespan for All Units of Scania KUB Euro 4 Batch 2,Euro 5 Batch 1 and 2 Will Recieve a additional 2-3 Years of Lifespan Extension if they are in good condition and they will be Retired in 2028 or 2029 and they will recieve a 2 Year Lifespan Extension if they are in good performance.Just Need to Retire the Volvo B9TL WEG2 Batch 1 and 2 as well in 2029 or 2030 because the vibration sound can be heard and it is uncomfortable for passengers to rode on them because The 300 Units of Double Decker Bus Will be MAN A95 3-Door Electric and Same goes to 360 Single Decker Buses as well.The 660 Buses Will be Awarded to ST Engineering Bodied By Gemilang.
Double Decks? That means to replace the Batch 1 and 2 Volvo B9TL WEG2. First Batch Lifespan expires in 2027 which is about 2 years time. Hoping LTA may consider getting some ev bendies, the MAN A24 arent getting younger and are about 10+ years now, something need to be done soon. At the very least get some for airport and feeder services. Three door DDs are ok at least better than Three Door SDs but question is if deploy these on services where people alight after a few stops and not wanting to go upstairs and crowd on the 1st floor, whats the point of the 3rd staircase and 3rd door? Better get some Bendies as well. Also hoping LTA goes for some other brands instead of Zhongtong or BYD, would be nice to have variety. Curious if the Demo BYD K9RC did pass its trial or not.
