Bus Service 181 is a trunk service that connects residents of Jurong West Neighbourhoods 7, 8, and Wenya Estate (Neighbourhood 2) to Boon Lay MRT/Bus Interchange. The route travels along Jurong West Street 64 and 75, then Jurong West Avenue 5 and 3, where it makes a U-turn at the end before returning to Boon Lay.
Although it operates entirely within the Jurong West area, Service 181 is classified as a trunk service since its launch in 2005 rather than a feeder service, possibly catering for a potential extension beyond Jurong West estate. Such an extension would only arrive in 2026, when it was extended to Tengah.
On school term weekday mornings, from 6:30 am to 7:45 am, Service 181 is replaced by its route variant, Service 181M, which loops at Jurong West Street 23. This variant provides access to Corporation Primary School, which is otherwise only served by Bus Service 185. During this time, Service 181 does not operate while Service 181M is in service.
On the eve of public holidays, operating hours will be extended to align with the extended train service hours. Extended last bus timings will be provided by the operator closer to the affected day.
Extension to Tengah:
On 9 February 2026, the Land Transport Authority announced plans to extend Service 181 to Tengah Bus Interchange under the Bus Connectivity Enhancement Programme (BCEP). The route amendment was eventually announced for 14 June 2026.
The route amendment will enhance connectivity to Bulim Industrial Estate and inter-town connectivity between Jurong West and Tengah. In addition, Service 181M will operate concurrently with Service 181 during morning peak hours, with no change to its route.
With the extension to Tengah, there are future planned bus stops for Service 181. These are:
- 2 pairs of bus stops along Bulim Ave
- 1 pair of bus stop along Jurong West Ave 2
- 1 pair of bus stop along Tengah Blvd

I just took bus 181 around its current looping point. The road connection from Jurong West Avenue 3 to Bulim Drive is ready, just not yet opened to traffic.
181 will likely take the main roads Bulim Drive and Bulim Avenue.
I just took bus 181 around its current looping point. The road connection from Jurong West Avenue 3 to Bulim Drive is ready, just not yet opened to traffic.
181 will likely take the main roads Bulim Drive and Bulim Walk.
Only confirmed routing of 181 by far is it going through Bulim Wk, Dr & Ave before turning out to JW Ave 2 towards PIE.
181M is being left untouched obviously, since 181’s extended route does not affect 181M in any way
Within Tengah though, it doesn’t look like Tengah Way (the road continuing from JW Ave 2 beyond PIE) is nearing completion anytime soon, meaning we might see 181 having an interim route through PIE, either exiting PIE via Tengah Blvd (the right turn is currently under construction, expected to complete by 2027), or through BBT Rd
It’s possible it goes through both too: entering via Tengah Blvd towards Tengah, exiting via BBT Rd towards Boon Lay
As a daily bus commuter from JW St 64s to Tengah… looking at the Garden Waterfront II map, 181 will likely serve other areas other than Tengah Blvd. I hope it plies Tengah Garden Avenue/future Hong Kah MRT just like and the new stop that 97 passes through. As there is no direct way from Tengah Blvd to PIE for now, likely reach JW from Bukit Batok road -> PIE (Tuas). For the return route, should be the straight forward route through JW Ave 2 to return to Tengah I hope.
I’m guessing the announcement will be either late Q2 or early Q3?.. anything earlier is a great bonus for those of us who can’t wait for the re-routed service to start.
I personally hope (but doubt it will happen) for 181 to ply other roads such as JW St 72 – Ave 4 – St 64, instead of St 75 – 64 – it is often impossible to board the stop at St 64 at peak hours even with 4-5 services serving it, as everyone in the 2 estates from both sides of St75, and St64 are boarding there since nearby stops are poorly served. Ave4 is accessible to us but 193 has 20min waiting time in mornings, 242 spins round and takes a long time to reach Boon Lay interchange, so we would all crowd at St64 stop or simply walk to Boon Lay MRT.
Was on 974 yesterday, and just past Westwood Sch bus stop there’s works being done to create a junction at Jalan Bahar and Bulim Drive, so I suspect that 181 will use this junction to connect to the PIE.
A bit out of range la hor. Most probably this road works not related to 181.
I mean not really? 181’s current turnaround point is going to be turned into Bulim Walk, and then it’s just a left turn to Bulim Drive and this junction, it feels like the shortest path that still makes use of the bus stops at the turnaround point tbh
