Singapore-bound passengers at Larkin Sentral to pay RM2 from 1 July 2026

From 1 July 2026, all passengers boarding Singapore-bound bus services from Larkin Sentral Bus Terminal will be charged a RM2 fee. This is double the current RM1 fee, which was implemented on 15 February 2023.

Commuters of Bus Services 170, CWL and SJE will be affected by the increased charges.

The RM2 fee is collected by Larkin Terminal at the entrance of Singapore Departure Hall, a common waiting area for all cross-border bus services. There are no other passenger facilities within the waiting area.

Turnstile gates at the entrance to the Departure hall accept the following payment methods:

  • Contactless Payment (Visa / Mastercard / MyDebit)
  • Touch ‘n Go (Physical card)
  • Cash (RM1 note only)

Passengers arriving from Singapore are not charged this extra fee and can exit the bus berth via one-way ticket gates.

The RM2 fee is similarly charged to long-distance coach passengers for the use of Larkin’s Central Ticketing System (CTS) and associated boarding facilities. This extra charge was implemented on 1 January 2022.

Affected Bus Services departing Larkin
Bus Service Destination Fares (as of Jul 2026)
170 Queen Street Distance-Based Fares (DBF) by Card or Cash
Cash fare can be paid in Malaysian Ringgit when boarding in Malaysia, which can be cheaper than paying with a contactless card
S$1.86 (Card) / RM2.70 (Cash) to Woodlands CIQ
S$1.98 (Card) / RM2.90 (Cash) to Kranji MRT
S$2.50 (Card) / RM3.20 (Cash) to Queen Street
CWL Singapore via JB CIQ Transfer at JB CIQ for CW1/CW2/CW5
RM2.60 to Kranji MRT (CW1)
RM4.80 to Queen Street (CW2)
RM4.60 to Newton Circus (CW5)
SJE Queen Street RM4.80

With the lowest fare to Singapore at RM2.60, the RM2 Larkin fee now accounts for nearly the price of the bus fare. Passengers wishing to skip the fee can board cross-border buses from any other boarding point in Johor Bahru.

Passengers taking Johor Bahru local buses are not charged for boarding/alighting at Larkin.

No waiting area in Singapore for bus services paying entrance fees to take buses. JB Larkin is getting more and more expensive. In addition, there are price increase in wanton noodles, fish ball and others recently. comparing cost of taking buses to checkpoint and entrance fees, is it proportional?

Update: With effect from 1 July 2026, anyone boarding cross-border bus services from Larkin Sentral Bus Terminal has to pay the RM2 facilities charge via cashless payments only just like the fines for not having an activated VEP RFID which needs to be paid via cashless payments only.

If you intend to board cross-border bus services from Larkin Sentral Bus Terminal, you must bring along a cashless payment card to pay the RM2 facilities charge or you will risk being denied entry.

Agree that the Johor state government should be paying for the terminal’s operating and maintenance costs so that the boarding process can be so much less cumbersome. Only stupid people are happy to waste time and undergo the trouble to pay the fees for waiting facilities.

Payment can be done by TNG card, or cash. But to use the aircon waiting for less than $1 before the bus arrival.. what’s the big deal?

First of all, paying the bus terminal service fee is quite difficult. Although bank cards are accepted, they seem to accept only Malaysian bank cards. If you are unable to pay, your only options are to take the longer CWL bus route or book a Grab instead.

Hopefully, they will stop charging this service fee at Larkin Bus Terminal and let the Johor state government pay for the terminal’s operating and maintenance costs instead.
