JB Sentral Bus Terminal

JB Sentral Bus Terminal is the main bus terminal serving the JB City Centre. Located at KTMB JB Sentral railway station, it is a hub for numerous local bus routes connecting the city centre with other parts of Johor Bahru, and its proximity to the JB customs complex also serves many cross-border travellers heading to and from Singapore.

JB Sentral is one of two bus termini served by Singapore public bus operators, the other being Larkin Bus Terminal.

JB Sentral Bus Terminal opened sometime in 2010 and was built as part of the JB Sentral Railway Station building. Centrally located within the Johor Bahru city centre and close to JB Customs Complex, it serves as a key transport node for both local and cross-border commuters alike. Numerous bus services call at JB Sentral Terminal, including cross-border services to Singapore.

The terminal is located just off Jalan Jim Quee and features 11 end-on berths. A further 10 more roadside berths are located on the opposite side of Jalan Jim Quee, which are presently not in use. A ManjaLink kiosk is also staffed, allowing commuters to top-up the ManjaLink stored-value transit card accepted on most local bus services, as well as other card transactions.

For P101 and P102, proceed to the kerbside pick-up point next to Platform 1, near the entrance of the bus terminal.

For AA1, CT and JPO1, buses may not pick up at the end-on berths if these are occupied by other buses. Look out for these buses within the bus terminal, or approach the Causeway Link timekeeper near Platform 1 before the scheduled departure time.

For Singapore bus routes 160, 170X, 950, flag the bus along the main road, near the terminal exit.

Owing to the proximity of JB CIQ within walking distance, few passengers board Bus Services 160/170X/950 from JB Sentral Terminal to JB CIQ, and thus buses often drive past the terminal without entering it. Passengers wishing to board Bus Services 160/170X/950 are advised to flag the bus along the main road (Jalan Jim Quee) beside the terminals’ bus exit.


Brief History:

Before JB Sentral terminal started operations, bus routes to and from JB city centre terminated along Jalan Wong Ah Fook (also referred to as ‘Bandaraya’ or ‘City Square’), where numerous buses would be parked along the roadside. When opened sometime in late 2010, Zon Barat (or West Zone) routes were relocated from Jalan Wong Ah Fook to the new terminal, serving bus routes to western destinations via Federal Route 1 (Skudai Highway) such as Skudai, Senai, Tun Aminah, and Bukit Indah.

Following the closure of Kotaraya II Bus Terminal on 1 Nov 2014, cross-border bus services 160170X and 950 were made to loop at Jln Tun Abdul Razak before their relocation to JB Sentral Bus Terminal on 1 March 2015. This marked the first time that cross-border bus services were made to serve the terminal.

Following the closure of Jalan Wong Ah Fook to all bus services, on 18 May 2015, all East Zone bus services were also amended to start and terminate at JB Sentral terminal, which led to significant congestion and overcrowding at the terminal, although this was gradually minimised as bus operators reduced lengthy layovers at JB Sentral. To further alleviate overcrowding, from 17 November 2019, boarding and alighting for West Zone bus services were moved across the road, where roadside bus bays and shelters were built; however, this arrangement was short-lived, and these bus routes soon moved back to the main JB Sentral terminal.

    Why cant the Johor Transport Minister just build a dedicated parking spot for bus 160, 170X and 950? (That way 170 can shorten here

      I would prefer if 170 starts from Marina Centre Ter – JB Sentral and 170X Gali Batu Ter – Larkin Ter
      950 also better extend to Larkin Ter

        Complain of Mybus T21 (xxx1550) which did not stop despite few pax flagging…at 1030am at Jln Permas Jaya near shell oil stn.
        It’s an Indian driver, it’s was very annoyed especially go to work.
        Pls follow up and necessary action to be taken.
        Will report this matter to the gov dept

      Actually, I would prefer that other than 170 which goes to Larkin Bus Terminal, 160 can extend to loop around KSL and then come back.

      Whereas for 950, most probably will be removed once the RTS Link opens (to rationalize resources). So, can just let it continue to loop around JB Sentral (which is practically just to u-turn back to Singapore).

      That way, don’t even need to think about having dedicated parking lots or what not.

      At the same time, can really put the existing resources to better uses.

      The JB Sentral bus terminal is more of a mega bus stop like the one at Kranji MRT station, than a bus terminal.

      In fact, there is a possibility that it may be replaced with a bus terminal or interchange at the RTS Link Bukit Chagar station the mixed use development right beside, in the future.

      So, adding on to your comment, if relocation is in the cards, actually it would be good if the replacement bus terminal or interchange (since it is next to the RTS Link station) can have a larger capacity than the existing JB Sentral bus terminal.

      The above is my elaboration on the matter.

      Perhaps the constant input of the recommendations would help to shape a much better future in Johor Bahru.

      The future of Johor Bahru actually looks quite promising.
